"Only 50 will be made"
So is this now or never? Or will there be another batch later? Not sure if I can afford one right now. |

We'll make 50 to start, that is plenty, so don't worry about it... If there is demand we'll make another batch.
Thanks!

I hope when you're saying you'll be selling at a loss you mean you won't actually loose money per unit but rather that the profits aren't enough to recuperate the R&D investment yet _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean. |

| FWIW I've opened my PPC Mac Mini a few times and it's a completely non-standard shape, as far as I can see.
Certainly nobody should buy the case expecting to be able to fit a Mac Mini innards until someone tests it.
That said, much kudos for getting this done! If I had the money I'd definitely be placing an order as - much as my Sam is cool in its little cube case thingy - it'd be even better in this! Fantastic work, and a good price too! |

Both, for a while. But it doesn't matter as what I am trying to achieve is: Get some development costs back, something is better than nothing. And don't disappoint who has been waiting for one.

Maybe once you've got these 50 out of the door you can use Kickstarter to fund a larger and profitable production of these cases. |

Maybe a Kickstarter fund for a complete system with Aros might be a good idea, to sell to all those old Amiga fans who think Amiga is dead but would baulk at the £1000 entry price for AmigaOS4 systems. _________________ Amiga 1000, 3000D Toaster, Checkmate A1500 Plus http://www.checkmate1500plus.com/ |

That's a great idea but I think it would be best suited to to a particular level of funding rather than the focus of any Kickstarter fund. Atari ST and Acorn Archimedes fans will also be drawn to it for nostalgic reasons. |

Sorry I have been busy hacking away at the project trying to lower the cost.
I have been working on the CAD chopping things off without (hopefully) compromising its quality and structural stability, removing and replacing things like the spacers for example, the way the plastic connects to the aluminium etc...etc...boring stuff. I can do a couple of things to it, once I've finished I'll email the drawings back to the factories to have it quoted again...
I am not sure if it's going to produce anything positive or if they'll just tell me to get lost...
I'll keep you posted.

| OK I have finished the CAD...
I've cut a few things and applied cheaper solutions to more expensive items; hopefully this will make it cheaper without changing its nature too much, it's all down to the quotes I get back in the end.
Revised the way to connect aluminium and plastic
Changed the standoffs for more affordable ones...not a fan but hey...
Removed clamp for power switch
Replaced power switch with a cheaper reset switch ( it does the same thing) but it costs £3
Removed the sleeve/braiding from the power switch
Removed the sleeving/braiding from the keyboard
Reduced the amount of punching required in the aluminium
I'll email the CAD files and wait for a quote.
Thanks! _________________ www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk |

Love the case! I do want one, but cash flow at the moment may put me in the second batch.
By the way, do you have any plans to try to get some visibility for your case outside of our small faction. For example, I wonder if Tom's Hardware or AnandTech would do a review of your case?

Thank you. That is a good idea, certainly something to follow up.

They probably want to have the case for free and then they start complaining as a thank you.

| Removed two side mounts (with screws on the back) where the sides join the rear end of the plastic
Reduced fixing screws cover to base from 8 to 6
Replaced spacers with small nuts for the HDD/SSD
Replaced the keyboard holders with smaller ones.
Plus all of the above in post #50 and should be quite a reduction.
If I take anything else out we're going to be left with nothing...

| It's good that you want to lower the price, but you may well find that you'll sell out at £260 anyway - in which case you can use the savings you've made as profit.
I certainly wouldn't complain at having to spend £260 for a case like this, even if an extra £20 or so of that went to you as profit; I think you deserve it.
That said, though - I'm not buying one so I would say that! I would if I could though! |
