| hmm. Question: On their page is something written about other linux maintainers who use game music. Which one do they mean?
Well now they deleted it. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! Appstore - AmiWallet - VAN lossless video codec - AMC Amiga media Center -KrypUnite - LibertyNet - MinX - amigaNX |

That post has since been removed. It was an attempt to get Amiga Inc.s attention in terms of brand licensing. Well, I got contacted by Amiga Inc today and was told that they didnt want to be involved or the brand to be involved in the Linux community anymore. That CommodoreUSA was their only and last licensee that they permitted to do that. But in case anyones interested it costs $600.00 plus a 5% royalty a year for a brand license. It was not my attempt to sicken anyone and if you read all my posts I said I was going to do that to see if I could get their attention. I got their attention, got my response and that was it.
It just seems a sad state of being when everything is so wrapped up legally and you have to contact 12 companies just to get something done. _________________ http://www.pc-opensystems.com |

@OS4 guys WAAIIT! They aren't interested but they told you how much it would cost?
You can still work with the Amiga Community without the "Amiga" name. Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 23-Jun-2013 at 12:09 AM. Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 23-Jun-2013 at 12:07 AM. Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 23-Jun-2013 at 12:04 AM.

| Good Day,
I have kept quiet till I saw these two posts.
From Darrin Quote:
"Linux OS4 for Amiga PPC" |
From Signal
" Keep us informed about your ppc projects. We have some very good linux people with open minds and are not....er.....squeeky wheels, so to speak."
I think you all are losing some sight. A nice Linux tweaked for AOS 4.1+ would be a nice addition. You must jump thru many hoops to get it installed.
If we had a distro that can be installed directly from disk with no fiddling with it would be very nice, and if Mr Dohnert has the expertise it would be beneficial to bring him in and see what he can do to optimize it for our systems.
My 2 cents.
Chris

It's interesting reading your posts I'm curious where you plan to go with this. Don't worry too much about any negativity. I guess you've read the history and seen how false hopes there's been over the years. |

I intend to help the Amiga communtiy through A-EON, A-EON said they will help me port OS4 OpenLinux to PPC and i will hopefully be able to work with them and get some drivers ported to the Amiga OS, Help port some of the great apps we have in the linux world to the Amiga world. Since Amiga Inc. and Hyperion dont seem to want to see the AmigaOS succeed and be seen as a true alternative, or allow at least the brand to succeed. Than i will do what i can as part of the community. _________________ http://www.pc-opensystems.com |

I like the sound of your last post very much. I have MintPPC installed as an alternative on my AmigaOne X1000 and plenty of hard drive space for another distro to add to the mix. But AmigaOS is the reason I bought the machine, and any new apps or drivers that will help that along will be greatly appreciated. _________________

Hyperion codes os4.x, a-eon & ACube make the h/w to run it. A.Inc was on the losing end of a court battle over os4 with Hyperion & could care less about the Amiga community now.
Linux does run on our h/w, but was never AmigaOS. Many of us have been using classic/NG h/w with OS3x/OS4.s/w for many years now, branding any h/w "Amiga" running linux won't replace what we consider an AmigaOS system.
Trevor, bless him, is a big fan of linux, I'm sure he will help you as much as he can. Just study up on our hobby so you don't make any stupid comments about what you think we need/want. Good luck with your relationship with a-eon.Last edited by sundown on 23-Jun-2013 at 07:14 AM.

| Well, I just found out about this and after reading the thread, I'm a bit confused...
We're discussing an operating system called "OS4 OpenLinux", which doesn't run on any PPC or 68k hardware (being an x86/amd64 Linux distro) that and which is not API compatible with Hyperion's AmigaOS 4. The only reason for the name (and the fact that we're discussing it here at all) seems to be that the maintainer used to be an Amiga fan back in the old days. Is that it?

Well, that seems like formal end of the CommodoreUSA story.
