So far Amiga roadmap seems to be:
- Legal emulation (done)
- AROS Integration (in progress)
- AROS drivers and AROS as second option for their hardware (Kindle is probably out of game again)
- PPC version of their Linux

Thing is, I don't see how what they are doing is any better than:

Going to local shop, buy PC for $500.
Install Linux (Ubuntu, Mint) for free
Install UAE for free
Install kickstart (which every Amiga person here probably owns legally)
And Install AROS, if at that point you want AROS. It can be set up in a virtual machine, if you want it all clean and separate.


So why spend $1000+ and also pay for the OS, when the hardware is much cheaper and software is basically free elsewhere? And if you really wanted Forever, just get that for like $50.

On the PPC side of things, I suppose current Amiga PPC owners may prefer OS4 if it is in fact better than Mint PPC and other options. And this may just be me, but I am not sure why a PPC Amiga person would really want Linux anyway, unless it was the only machine they owned. A cheapo desktop from several years ago can run most flavors of Linux fine -- the sort of desktop you find on the side of the road, or for like $50.

If they did something unique, like say they were putting together a FPGA machine, or working on AROS hosted on OS4, for Pi or some different ARM system, then it could be worthwhile. But I don't get what they are doing though from a business perspective. And the Amiga connection is extremely tenuous ... simply licensing Amiga Forever doesn't really add a lot, or more than anyone else can do by simply buying Amiga Forever themselves.

if they contribute to aros then it is a gain, definitely. until then there is not so much to talk about.

Completely agreed there is nothing new that hasn`t been avail elsewhere,
and that an advanced user can`t build on his own.
Its just out of box offer, surely for some price, if it comes to that.

On PPC side, Linux is a necessary evil because of lack of apps for
AmigaOS 4 and ability to use more RAM and cores. However, my coming
X1000 will be supplied with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Not the latest word in Linux,
but not bad at all too ... so would hardly spent 60$ unless something really
attractive is offered back

not the whole market is full of people enjoying fiddling around with obscure systems

most people want something that they can easily install and start using without searching and configuring. So there is a market for preconfigured systems and people pay for that. I have seen some advertisements for their next version that they are preparing so even if they only make some marketing and gain attention to the existing community it would already help. So I am not so negativ as some others here, we will see what finally comes out.

and now kind of promises PPC Line and long term AROS support. Amiga Forever is
legally offered as addition and AROS inclusion is underway.

Well, AROS could benefit from it, its directly competing to AresOne and we have to
see how will survive in PC world offers with slight hardware profit margin and emphasize
on free and open source software solutions. No matter how similar in any ways, smarter
approach then with CUSA extreme hardware profits.

In practice, greener side of OS4 Linux means offer of Compaq and Dell
used systems in 150-250$ range. Not bad offer for a school starters, people
in less developed countries and quite usable systems. Only hard drive sizes
really look silly for today ...
