No, any time Wawa is involved its simply an attack against OS4, its software, developers, hardware or even users like me. I'm simply pointing out his ongoing onslaught against the OS4 community, as others have done in other threads recently...too many people are letting him go on with his continuous nonsense for far too long. I'm really sick of it.

Now...back to topic please... why do they insist on calling this thing OS/4 Open Linux when they apparently disdain AmigaOS4. What happened to the naming being in honor of the Amiga OS? Perhaps they should consoder switching the name to Morph Open Linux or AROS Open Linux.... wouldn't that be more appropriate?

This Amigaworld.net would be so boring place without wawa and co.

Some sort of bad joke, I fear.

Did it ever occur that maybe some people prefer to think of 'Amiga' as something the original engineers and, to a lesser extent, Commodore gave to the world? The decline of Commodore and everything that's been done to their old 'Amiga' brand since is a travesty.

But I take your point. I also question why Roberto would want to burden his creative effort with the label 'OS4' or even 'OS/4' and all the negative baggage that goes with it.

@scabit

I believe he mentioned it's a throw back to a earlier os he worked on. Something like OS4U, or something along those lines.

@all
Now one thing that confuses me. He is bundling AF with some premium version of his OS. However I am pretty sure, the last time I attempted this, if he is using wine then it has compatibility issues with it. Resulting in sketchy launching of games and all out refusal to load the rest of the time. Plus the AF Player had numerous graphical glitches. This was also the reason CUSA dropped the whole AF thing beyond leaching kick start roms out of it, and reverse engineering the RP9 format, in order to create some of bastardised makeshift player.

Without a Linux install, my Linux HDD has died, I am unable to test with a newer version of wine. However the last time I tried, march time, it was still the same.

you may have noticed i usually take break from those discussions until someone post something utterly **** (incorrect) which has to be at least put in a context, and sorry to say it happens to be usually an os4 user (daz in this case).

Yup. That post makes you sound real happy. Kinda like what Bill Hicks had to say about pro-lifers.

im not precisely that kind of guy. i was snooping os4 for some time and am interested in aros to certain extent, mostly 68k but as all aros is cross platform hardwarewise so you support also other branches just automatically. i also value morphos, even if never really tried it iin person. the users there may be annoyingly reasonable to the extent almost never posting bull all over the forums, but they are usually friendly and dont insist on someone like me, who doesnt exactly buy into their definition of "amiga".

In case anybody actually ordering, that - just utilizing the ROM files - is the same thing he will do as well. For emulation FS-UAE is used, i.e. no need for WINE.

@Senex

Are you confusing WINE and UAE (or WinUAE)?

FS-UAE - emulates Amiga
WINE - allows Windows applications to run under Linux

Having FS-UAE does not negate the need for WINE. Critanime was pointing out that having WINE installed may cause problems with the stability of FS-UAE.

@Boot_WB

I was actually talking about Amiga Forever. Amiga Forever has compatibility issues with wine.

it sounds much more realistic than the first (euphoric) comments (even if not everyone will like it). Have they changed their attitute/plans to port their distribution to PPC at all?

idont know, actually it sounds pretty honest, and how it really is. i think it is good to have a linux ditro containing amiga emulator and aros hosted by default. its also good to have some morphos exposure outside the community. looks like the guys may be able of generating some publicity. all that may be of gain to community, or may bring nothing but it aint a loss as i see it.

now as the subject started i tried to install this open linux under my vmware to check it out if it can replace my buntu as building environment. i have not been succesful immediately, it only ran from iso. but i may take another look, if it is slick and well supported. i actually consider ubuntu rather an overkill for my tasks.

@OlafS25

I just noticed something odd. Perhaps it is my browser, but I've tried 2 so far.
The text "OS/4 OpenLinux Project" in the logo was solid black before, no?
It's looking borked here.

it was. roberto changed it to some sort of metallic gradient earlier today. the new modified logo also appears in one of the screenshots in the post you referenced above.
