@klx300r

I see this BS thread is still going, first time I've dived in here having been uninspired by the title of the thread - and the first I read is a post about some inaccurate disclaimer lol
Whatever possessed me to click and read... oh dear.

@number6

You stated just what I was going to write.

People who want to discuss CUSA and Barry Altman, please move your discussion to the proper forum for that topic.

As for OS4 Open Linux and Roberto Dohnert, we will wait a little while longer to decide if a new forum "Off the Front Page" should be created, or simply move all threads about him and his company into the same forum as the CUSA threads, as they really have nothing to do with anything Amiga related.

If an Amiga fan really cares about one of the 90+ Linux distributions out there, I really don't think they need to be told about it on AW.net or any other Amiga fan forum.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Linux_distributions

Linux is doing just fine without any help from Amiga-land. Heck, Linus Torvalds just beat Microsoft so things can't so bad that Linux needs to closely associate with anything Amiga related these days.

And yes, I am a tad biased...

Wait a second. On his site he says.

Quote:
We also have the engineering marvel, the Vision 64 all in one keyboard PC from Cybernet available.

Yet in one of the online chats he said this.

Quote:
[20:43:50] [rjdohnert] I cant sell the vision 64 because its an AIO keyboard too close to the Commodore 64

So which is it lol.

@CritAnime

The trick is: embrace something controversial as long as the attention it gets you surpasses the negative side effects. Then drop it. For Roberto, this happens in very short cycles, 1 to 2 weeks maximum.

@thread

Ive intentionally disregarded this thread thus far under the assumption it was just another Linux based distro with perhaps a slight AOS flavor (as an after thought)). There's plenty of alternative OSes out there, especially Linux based, so the "amiga" niche seems as good an alternative crowd to try to attract to yet another Linux distro as any, especially given the cross over of naming, which could see OS4 show up when Google-ing.

Is this all it is, or is there something of interest to someone interested in OS3.x/4.x, AROS and/or MOS?

@fishy_fis

AFAIK there is no AOS flavour to it. Roberto got some emails from some people here (nutballs) because his distro was called OS4. After that he decided to try and court the Amiga community in the hope of some sales.

It's kind of CUSA Mk2.

@RobertJDohnert

personally I felt postively about what Robert had done with newest Linux OS4 of his release.

And if you people wouldnt be already feeling so negative about him, I think you would be happy about the stuff he have done.

Its not like its much, but he anyway did add sort of direct support for Amiga Emulation for his Linux distribution, and I think thats a positive thing. I also believe some people will find out about Amiga either for nostalgia or even for first time through his distribution.

I doubt there will become new serious Amiga users through that, but at least it helps the retro scene a bit. I also doubt A-Eon will get any new machine deals through that, but it is still a good thing A-Eon gets mentioned. Any publicity, even small, is always step forward.

You maybe didnt do much yet Robert, But had you not said anything here, this had already been pretty big jump.

Thanks Robert from this!

Hope you are able to deliver your talks too.

While we are blue balls subject, those images do look photoshopped
with blue balls added to machines. I wonder will they sell like that,
is it a sticker or laser engravement?

The "big jump" is same as downloading FS-UAE and IcarOS to any Linux.
While its nice to have "Amiga emulation enabled Linux" its half usable as it is given

Quote:
FS-UAE, if you have a legal Kickstart ROM and copy of AmigaOS 3.x, you can run the legacy AmigaOS under the FS-UAE emulator. AROS Subsystem, you can install this if you dont have a legal copy of AmigaOS 68k so you can run legacy applications and games as well as great AROS games and applications available today. AROS Subsystem is located in the /opt folder of every copy of 32 and 64 bit

More or less doing same without Amiga Inc blessing
and with somewhat better relations with Amiga community

Well, Mr Donhert just posts news here, he doesn`t
always reply.

Obviously, he decided to try Cybernet. Like Barrys son
or Amiga Inc are really gonna sue him.

@amigadave

Well, technically it cannot go to Amiga Inc offshoot,
as officially it isn`t even that. Some new folder of Amiga unrelated?

@RobertJDohnert

Waiting for that updated PPC port for X1000, that somewhat can be related

Also, note that promoting Hackintosh too can be shaky ...

Oh I know it's just another contradiction on his part to drum up sales. ;) personally I just think it's pretty darn funny.

@resle

I might be odd about it, but generally I give people the benefit of the doubt and give them time prove themselves before passing judgement.
It seems to work the other way around on this and other forums, where shooting first and asking questions later is the prefered methodology.

Not jumping on the "hate train" from day one doesnt mean we "roll out the red carpet".

@Overflow

I agree with you - but as you said there's some weird dynamic going on here. People should not jump on hate trains, but not even ... well, not rolling red carpets but strenously defending someone who didn't do anything concrete end, and already sounded like a charlatan.

And here we go

Can any mod lock this thread?. It's becoming really nonsense and a hate pool. As the slogan said, only Amiga makes it possible...
