@NutsAboutAmiga

I wonder if we one day see PPC virtualization taken in use on our niche. Then we should be able to run Linux, AOS4 and xkernellAOS4 all at the same time, "natively"....

@Signal

nice to compare notes about compiling across the platforms.
I now use Ubuntu x86 via Oracle VM VirtualBox under Windows to cross compile my Sam440ep kernels.
Takes about 22 minutes on my slower x86 machine.

Tested your 3.14-rc3 kernel with my Ubuntu Remix HDD installation. All good witf full 3d gfx support on my AmigaONE x1000 & RadeonHD 6870 gfx card combination.

Thanks Trevor. Good to know the build systems are compatable and nobody
has been in there changing the gears for one or the other.

That is one heck of a setup.

I had a x86 laptop all set for cross compiling Linux and AmigaOS then one day
did a gcc upgrade and killed everything. YUK!
Just haven't messed around with trying to set that up again. The laptop is too
old anyway, needs a battery, and all my desktops are either Amiga OS4 or Linux.

Less headaches.

I'm just trying to imagine what it would be like to add a new graphics card to that setup.

Tricky probably.

@Signal

I set this up as I messed up my x86 Ubuntu by messing with the partitions.
It was quite quick and easy to to set up and I was able to just copy the VM files to a second machine so can use which ever x86 machine is idle and still use my Sam.

I used this guide for the cross compiling setup

https://bluegiga.zendesk.com/entries/25953353-Cross-compiling-WF111-kernel-drivers-for-TWR-MPC5125-PowerPC-
.

had to use sudo apt-get install gcc-powerpc-linux-gnu
to get the right version of gcc .

@xeno74

Yes, be my guest.

If you're happy with it, I'm happy.

Anyway, you supplied the patch and config files, I just ran it through the
machinery.

For now, I think I'll stick with keeping things as simple as possible.
If I really need to cross compile in the future ,,,,,, well that's the future.

@Signal

No problem if you have a faster machine.
A kernel compile on my Sam440ep-Flex takes close to 3 hours.
Sam460ex took about 2 hours.
I use to sometimes leave both machines on compiling over night.

I do remember doing compiles on a 440ep which was why I setup the laptop, but
now the X1000 beats the laptop by at least 70% time difference and my 2 x86
desktops are at least 6 years old and showing their age.

The one x86 is still running a 2.4 kernel and its next upgrade will involve
a trash can.

And yeah, I do recall setting up the builds for 440ep for late night, see ya
in the morning, type of times. Seems the 2.4 kernels built faster, but then again
they were less involved........ progress(?).

Hope I remember to time a 3.x.x kernel build on Nemo, just for info.

Hello everybody,

Linus Torvalds did release the new kernel 3.14.0 last night. I have built the kernel 3.14.0 final for our Nemo and Electra boards. Thank you very much to our testers for the testing the release candidates.

New: www.phoronix.com

Downloads:

For the P.A. Semi Electra board: vmlinux-3.14.0-PASemiElectra.tar.bz2
For the A-EON Nemo board: vmlinux-3.14.0-AmigaOneX1000.tar.bz2

Let's have a party.

All the best,

Christian
