Interesting. 4.2? I guess we'll know
I wouldn't have it any other way. I like being surprised with new hardware, software, etc. when they are finished and ready to roll out.

@Moxee

I remember you, as well!
Funny story, My son and I bought one of the Amiga motherboards and built the computer around it with the help of a DIY book. Worked well, wrestled with Debian, set up our account with Hyperion, and waited for the OS to be released. Then, someone broke in and stole the computer. No recovery, and the insurance wasn't enough to replace the thing, so this will be my first experience with Hyperions OS, though technically, I've owned a copy for years.

Looking forward to it! We're headed forward without major obstacles for the first time in decades. What can this community do, I wonder??

When Captain Midnight uses his Amiga, he drinks his Ovaltine. Amigans who want a decoder ring should also drink Ovaltine.

Getting your Amigaone stolen doesn't sound very funny to me

Welcome back, though

If you just need office applications, instead of bothering with dual boot you can try the AmiCygnix framework and related programs like AbiWord and Gnumeric... QT also brings in some interesting stuff.

@Marky_D_Sahdd

Sad to hear someone stole your original AmigaOne. Someone broke into my place while I was working a night shift and amongst other things stole OS4.0 pre, 4.0 Classic and 4.1. Thankfully none of my systems were taken apart from a crappy PIII laptop. Most of it was covered but you can't replace the pre-release and there was an £800 engine management system and £150 wideband lambda sensor that weren't covered by the policy.

Just do not keep it in store for the whole year!
(announcements without release cause negativity)

Okay, there were a few slips, but my Paypal finally cleared at Relec. It looks like I may have bought the last SAM machine anywhere! Relec reports no more in stock!

Guess what arrived this evening?? I have had a long, nearly catastrophic week, I arrived home to kisses and a big package. Set up my new (beautiful) Red One X, turned it on, got no display. Rebooted from the DVD, and was able to open every drawer, but items either were unable to find connecting programs (asking for assigns) or just sat there, like little postage stamps, not doing anything. Its probably an easy fix, something reading the manual will probably cure, but too tired tonight. Am very excited about tomorrow, though!

@Marky_D_Sahdd

Are all cables (HDD etc.) connected right?

Try also AmigaOS support forum and Amigans.net for help.

If you booted from CD/DVD the assigns for installed software will be wrong. I'm wondering if you got no display because the screen mode it was installed with is not compatible with your monitor.

When trying to boot without the DVD did you see the OS4 splash screen?

@Rob

Unfortunately without the display options in the early startup menu we can't do the old trick and switch to ECS anymore to disable non-default modes.

But it should be possible to switch to a boot shell and change the mode.

@Hypex

Yep. If he can get into the early startup menu then he can boot with no startup sequence. The best course of action then is to open a newshell* and then execute s/startup-sequence and then change the settings from within workbench as per normal.

*Opening a newshell just means that workbench will be forced to stay in the initial screen mode rather than switching to the one in the settings.
