@HammerD

at the time i bothered with os4 i got to work elbox drivers with my mediator4kdi and voodoo3 after i commented out the appropriate kmod modules, i think it was the one responsible for voodoo os4 side, i dont know the exact name anymore. afair the elbox drivers did not provided me with the dma functionality i expected from my 3.9 setup, namely fullscreen tv-card output in the background of voodo generated graphics because it was dependent on pci dma os4 did not allowed. on the other hand elbox drivers did not supported os4 warp3d i guess. so i resigned on both, used my os4 installation occasionally to test something till i got bored and shelved it for good.

isnt it that 4.1 classic relies on poseidon for usb, rather than its own native sirion stack?

I don't know about OS 4.1 classic - I only have OS 4.0 classic.
With OS 3.9 I use the Poseidon USB Stack.

from my experience on my mediator 3.9 setup the pio vs. dma mode doesnt significantly impact the transfer rates, but it does naturally involves more cpu resources , which shouldnt be as much of a problem on a ppc versus 68k cpu, even if dma is nice to have and i wouldnt like to resign on it.

Don't forget that OS 3.9 exclusively runs on the 68060 - so there definitely IS this resource problem.
The AmigaOS doesn't know about the PPC.
The PPC is only used by WarpOS to run code that is secifically compiled for it (WarpUP).

@Dandy

same here, never bothered to get 4.1. still pio is less of a problem with ppc, and thats what i wrote. on my 3.x setup after initial problems with mediator that have been soon taken care in form of firmware updates, there have never been any more problems with dma.

@amimaniac
I have another one.. basically I thought about a possibility to redirect url-requests to a server based service which reduces the traffic (resizing mages, excluding flash and other things). Same as Opera-Turbo. Optimized so that Netsurf doesn't need to do too much math.

Are you the maintainer of Netsurf 68k?
Maybe we can work together into that direction.

If interesting...

@phoenixkonsole

This can be done already with proxy servers. Tried fasTun.com but loading was slower.
Maybe there is faster proxy server.
pici.picidae.net did similar thing but it doesn't work lately.

I'm interested in your idea.

what would be the problem for a WarpUp version of Netsurf ? As simple as some modifications to the OS4 version or yet another complete new version ?

@pavlor

on OS3.9 ? I have a BPPC with a GREX, that's not supported with OS4. Also others mention they barely use OS4 and prefer their OS3.9 because of better driversupport for mediator and USB2.0 ... so that's why I suppose ?

But I am not after the pros and the cons .. I just want to know what it would take.

NetSurf already can play youtube videos through getVideo script.

HTML5 is not planned in near future.

@lukeskyd

That page tends to be (read: is) out of date. The development plan is a better one to look at.

Most core changes automatically get supported by all frontends, others need to be specifically added. Some things are frontend-specific (rather than being part of the core).

The OS3 version is the Framebuffer-SDL frontend, and I can't speak for any changes but it should be approximately equivalent to that.

I still live in hope that somebody will write a proper frontend for OS3.

The OS4 version supports all features.

Yes, but some are implemented later so I add them myself. Disc caching for example.
