Cool.
Is this where we may expect the "nice surprise" announcement from HyperionMP to be made?

Illogical.

If you expect something, how could it be a surprise?

Thanks for posting this here #6.

First, we shifted hosting plans for a better experience. As with any transition there are a few bumps along the way. We are working to make restore the sign up forms and will be adding details as we have them

This year's show will be good as ever. It's the 29th anniversary of the Amiga so expect more details on the 30th anniversary. The Cyrus+ should be available around the show. Libre Office might be shown or discussed. Maybe an updated Timberwolf... Just speculating here but the potential is great.

Cheers,
Bill "tekmage" Borsari

As a Video Toaster/Flyer user that you are, wouldn't you agree that it would be a fantastic idea to invite and coerce Tim Jennison of NewTek to be the keynote speaker for the 2015 AmiWest Show next year? It might take that long to convince Tim to show up at an event that isn't likely to benefit him with any new sales of any NewTek products, but he might do it for nostalgic reasons, and if he had the chance to meet up with a few of the Commodore engineers & designers/developers from the "Old Days", like Carl Sassenrath, Dale Luck, Dave Haynie, Beth Richards, etc., if you could also convince some of them to show up for the 30th anniversary of the Amiga next year.

I would love to meet Tim Jennison and hear some of his stories about the early days of the Video Toaster/Flyer, or even earlier work done by NewTek with the Amiga.

With a whole year to work on it, I think we have a fair chance of making it happen!

By the way, who is the keynote speaker for this year's show?

Oh, a 9 a.m. Sunday swap meet at Amiwest. That should be interesting (he sleepily said). :)

@amigadave

Good to hear from you! I hope you can make it this year.

Regarding the banquet speaker for AmiWest 2014. We are still working on lining someone up. If we get a chance to talk to Tim, I'll invite him for sure.

Otherwise, we have a few other folks that we are thinking of. Suggestions are always welcome.

As for Amiga 30th, stay tuned for more details there too.

Cheers,
Bill

@tekmage

Nice to hear from you too Bill. I will definitely be at the 2014 AmiWest Show this Oct.

I really hated missing the show last year, so don't ever want to miss any AmiWest Show again this year or any year in the future. It is the highlight of my Amiga experiences each year and I can't wait to see everyone again and find out what the sponsors of the show will have new for us this year.

Great idea to bring back a Swap Meet element to the show as an official event, even though there are always great new & used gear deals at every AmiWest Show.

See you in about 2-1/2 months from today.

P.S. Will you be using your Video Toaster/Flyer gear during the AmiWest Show this year to do transitions and camera switching for any web streaming of the show to those who can't make it there? Do you need any additional video cameras and/or wireless microphones to use during the show?

@amigadave

There were some needs expressed in this post AmiWest 2013 thread that could be reviewed. Maybe some of it is still relevant. Dunno.

@amigadave

Let me know what you have, in PM, and I'll take you up on that. I'm happy to borrow anything I can!

Last year I got some donation money and was able to rent a few quality wireless mic's. They worked really well but we'll want even more for this years show.

I'll be streaming with the Toaster for sure! Had a few more idea's up my sleeves for improvements. Stay tuned!

Cheers,
Bill

Although this is linked on the AmiWest home page, I see one addition already, so you might want to watch for additional info here:

@tekmage

Just wanted to clarify a bit of text about Amiverse section please.

Quote:
(i.e., Amiga, AROS, MorphOS, and emulators)

I assume you meant AmigaOS, AROS, MorphOS, and emulators? (referring to operating systems)

Not that anyone would bring any Amiga Inc. licensed/branded Amigas to the show mind you, but still perhaps the delineation of Amiga and AmigaOS should be made? It would also serve to clarify that anyone wishing to demonstrate Christian's Amiga Linux should plan to do so in the main section of the show and not in the Amiverse section?

(this would apply to Spectre660's linux for Sam as well)

Thanks for the question. The idea is to provide a place for people who bring their Amiga systems to the show to have a place to set them up. While tables are extremely affordable some people still don't take that leap. So we decided to open up an area where people can get power and networking. In the past we have had some opened tables where people had been setting up systems or sitting down with their laptops.

The goal of this new area of the show floor is for people to have that space for their Amiga's to share with others. This hope is this will encourage folks to bring their Amiga systems. Folks with non-Amiga laptops can use the other tables.

So what's an Amiga? The list is long by this definition, and is about the hardware and software. Someone shows up with a SAM running linux can use this space. Someone running MOS on a PowerBook would be great. Some random x86 box with Aros is also welcome. Anything that celebrates the AmiVerse.

If anyone is concerned they can contact me.

Cheers,
Bill "tekmage" Borsari

FYI, Roger of SACC (and founding AmiWest committee member) is bringing his powerbook with MorphOS.
