I had it set to 32 for all units to begin with.
I tried reducing it to like 8 for each unit, but it's the same.
But, one thing I have never done was set the Music unit to use Unit ) like you siggested, so looks like I need to try that.
Anyway, I've got that UGT-S100 card with the Envy24 chipset now. Need to plug it in and try it later.

You need to check out the threads linked earlier, so you can see why you should not use ANY SBLive card in an A1.
I used to have one, and always had strange issues until I switched to the SB128. Then I quit using the SB128 because it would gradually corrupt the sound over time (longer the A1 was booted the worse it got). An Envy24 or CMI8738 card would be the best to use. When I had my A1XE G4 I used the SB Live! only, but it had to be in the very bottom PCI slot. Its not the SBLive that is the problem, its the VIA controller.

Yeah, I think I had to put it there too.
@thread
I've now got the UGT-S100 Vantec card in it and it's working fine. Even got everything going through Unit 0 like was suggested and it's working great!
However, I think something is still wrong in my OS4 install. Even though I have Mixer 1.40 installed (and just reloaded it after downloading fresh from OS4 Depot), Mixer will NOT see the Envy24 card! What is even wierder, it only sees the Via686b, even though the driver for that isn't even in the Devs:AHI drawer AND I have the NO_VIA option set in Mixer's icon!
But it's working, and I usually leave the card at full volume anyway. My speakers have their own volume control. _________________ This posting, in it's entirety, is the opinion and/or statement of the author and does not reflect the views and/or position of this site. |

Mixer doesn't use AHI for sound/volume control, it "bangs" the hardware directly (if it founds). Some Envy24 cards work with Mixer others don't
Can you post 'PCISCAN DETAIL' output of your Envy24 card please?
BTW Mixer V1.37:- Removed NO_VIA tooltype/arg, hope doesn't break/hang A1-XE. Last edited by jabirulo on 16-Apr-2015 at 11:03 PM. Last edited by jabirulo on 16-Apr-2015 at 11:01 PM.

| Won't recommend SBLive! or an XE but it works.. I had it repaired and it cost not only money but time. What a great dinosaur someday..
Contact Gentle-Eye for more. The machine went through some factory professional inspectors??

Actually it is the VIA686b that doesn't play well with SoundBlaster. It has been documented with problems on PCs with VIA686b + SoundBlaster as well (back in the 90's when PCs use VIA686b... ).
Anyway. There are no special AHI settings for SBLive!. Just use some 16-bit HiFi++ mode for all units 0-3, except Music Unit. Set enough channels. Why not max (32). I would set mixing level to -3dB (to prevent the volume from jumping when a second sound plays, and to prevent distortion).
You can also set the volume to either max, or something in between. I use half volume otherwise I blow my speakers when the A1 boots, before Mixer has set the levels. Depends if you use Mixer or your stereo/speakers to control volume.
And finally, set Music unit to Unit 0 instead of specific sound card mode to allow programs that can only play on Music (like Odyssey mediaplayer) to play at the same time as other sounds, like AmigaAMP or system sounds. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

Hmm, seems I've got problems other than the sound card.
While the new card works great and never gives that "static" burst like the CMI8738 did, it still quits eventually. I left it on over night after testing with some heavy multi-channel stuff (song playing in AmigaAMP, going through emails in Thor in rapid succession to cause multiple system beeps in short time period). The testing seemed ok, so I figured it was fixed. Next day, no sounds until I restarted the A1.
I'm thinking of just starting from scratch with a clean OS 4.1u6 install (don't have FE yet), just to see if that helps.
Unless someone has a suggestion? Whatever it is, it is not specific to the card, as it does this with both the Envy24 and CMI8738 cards.
