Other than that; if I would go for a PC I would try to make it is as future proof as possible by getting a fast and expandable machine. It would probably cost the same as a Macbook.

From your initial usage-specs a small cheap Windows-based ultra-book is perfectly well suited for your girlfriend. Don't see anything there that an i5 (or probably even an i3) can't do. And I definitely don't see anything that would require a "fast and expandable machine".

I'd suggest:
spend the hell of a pile of bucks you safe by not buying an overpriced "still glossy display, needs adapters for everything, has no DVD and will start to crawl with the next OSX update"-piece of designer hardware she definitely doesn't need for a nice luxury wellness-hotel weekend-trip with her

(p.s.: and said pile would be real massive in case you aim for a 13" retina - because she certainly won't want to live with the smallest model and its 128 GB SSD...)

(p.p.s.: regarding the "superiority" of OSX: I don't know, but if an OS claims to be "the most advanced" then it should at least provide keyboard controlable system dialogs everywhere and don't tell me that I cannot delete file x because the trashcan is currently being emptied...
Regarding its stability: I have to hard-reset my Mac multiple times a day because XCode manages to crash and freeze the whole finder when going to nirvana... very advanced... In contrast to that I cannot even remember when my Win7 machine froze the last time
That's my experience using both worlds every day.)

Don't forget the bleeping mandatory keychain

Next step is they will integrate it with the cloud.

Also, Active Directory has been around for as long OSx has been around, Apple still has not managed to make a decent AD plugin for OSX.
This is not impressive at all, giving Linux managed to do that long time ago.

2 days ago I placed an order for Macbook Pro15 inch and Apple Thunderbolt screen at work.
That cost, without wat, 27k SEK.
A IBM-pc clone based solution and a high end screen at same class as the Apple screen, would have landed around 20-21k SEK, as comparison.
And the laptop hardware would have been faster.
But the user was brainwashed by Apple.

So with Apple, you don't really get what you pay for, you get skinned

@Daytona675x & tomazkid

So the conclusion is then basically that you get more HW for the buck with a PC, and both OSes suck.

Great, we kind of knew that already. So.. Macbook Air then maybe?

@Deniil715

So what does she want to have? She has to move it along. She has to work with it. I know, it's just a tiny detail....

@Deniil715

Actually, believe or not

Win8 on this Zenbook with touchscreen actually made Win8 Metro mode make some sence.

So yes, better bang for the buck going non Apple.
OS, well, if Win8 is not wanted, see for one that has Win7 option, or go some Linux distro.

Macbook Air, bad graphics compared with Pro, so if you decide for a Macbook, go Pro, not Air.
