Testing has begun for the Final Beta (Beta 2) of Lubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn. Head on over to the ISO tracker to download images, view testcases, and report results: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/324/builds
If you're new to testing, anyone can join and they don't have to be Linux Jedis or anything. You can find all the information you need to get started here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Testing
Please note that we especially need testers for PPC chips and Intel Macs. We have a special section discussing it here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Testing/PPC%26Mac64
In particular, if you have an Intel Mac, I have a few questions for you that might help us trim down the workload of the testing team. Please get in touch with me directly.
Also, if you have a PPC chip, we're about the only distro actively supporting this architecture. However, we are community supported, so without formal testing, the arch will lose more support. So please join in testing!
Please crosspost this everywhere, especially to any folks that may be willing to help with PPC.
If you have any other questions or comments, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me directly by email and/or IRC.

| Very cool - why struggle with AOS when you can run Linux? Is that the moral of the story? Probably not but then the decision to run/use AOS for the past 20 years has been because of emotion not merit. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

OS4.1 is the main OS on the Sams, X1000 etc. Linux is an additional option on the NG Amigas. A-EON and ACube are supporting Linux officially.

Linux is the OS used to test new Amiga NG motherboard designs.

No Problem. Just remember to leave the space you want to use for linux as un partitioned space at the end of your hard drive before running the installer

Installed on Sam460+RadeonHD5550 using a seperate SSD. Chose Lubuntu desktop and installed fine without problems.
However system feels sluggish because of disabled hardware acceleration, I think..
If there was a way to activate GPU acceleration, it would be really useful... _________________ AmigaOS4 Beta-Tester ---------------------------------- Amiga X5000 8GB Radeon RX 560 Amiga A1222 2GB Radeon RX 550 Sam 460 2GB RadeonRX 550 |

That is a pity. Keep updating every few days and sees if anything improves. from a terminal sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade

OK I will update...
But hardware acceleration is related to Sam460 kernel, isn't it ? _________________ AmigaOS4 Beta-Tester ---------------------------------- Amiga X5000 8GB Radeon RX 560 Amiga A1222 2GB Radeon RX 550 Sam 460 2GB RadeonRX 550 |

Yes. Performance is better also when direct rendering is working. This has to do with Mesa. It was working in Lubuntu 14.04 but Lubuntu 14.10 has a newer Mesa version and X.org. I found that Lubuntu 14.10 was performing better than 14.04 and Debian Jessie on my Sam440ep-flex up to last week. Only Debian Wheezy was faster.
As both of my Sams are now not working this is going to be it from me for now.

Hi, As you may remember, I installed lubuntu for sam flex last year I think. How is this new version compared to the old ones ? I am referring for example to the colors of the screen that are uggly. Could I use your sudo commands to make the update or have I to do reinstall with the iso? Thanks

The colour issue was due to a kernel configuration. That is fixed with the newer kernels.
Lubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 have slower window moving than previous versions. I dont know if that will bother you.
A clean install is the safest way to install as this installs the newer kernel also .

You don't need the ISO. All what you need to install 14.10 is in the initrd. _________________ www.amigalinux.org |
