| Hi. My PC broke down. Luckily;) Sadly lost some important stuff offcourse. I'm amazed about OWB that played the occasional YouTube etc. Just used to update the XE and then went back to mainstream usually before.
On the Main topic:
If I stick the USB HP with the recommended hub it sees it's a Hewlet Packard / HP Colour LaserJet/ Multiclass.
Great! New to me. Now I've got a pdf bill to print so is it really possible?
Read about postcript and there is a selection to print in usb driver should it be and the HP is found there too but 0% happens.
Something doing wrong.
If this printing works I can really ditch my pc away and not buy a new one;) I can use the old card reader but:
Edit: Now Back to pen&paper. Luckily it was my own bill but tomorrow it might be of a companys.. My rush was to write as the bank closes so now tried to edit my writings but the idea is quite the same, Hopefully more undersandable.
A1XE- 4,1 update6
Any experience is very welcome. Tried a few.
Thank You, PR

Hi, I have and use a HP Color LaserJet 2300n connected to my network/router. Using lpr.device (os4depot) and "configured" ENVARC:lpr.device with "HOST=192.168.1.230 RAW" being the IP of my printer.
Under linux (SAM460) I use CUPS (web-browser pointing to 127.0.0.1:631) and no problems.
Using as Printer driver POSTSCRIPT and under AmiPDF again the POSTSCRIPT driver.
IIRC HPLaserJet 4 driver under AOS4 works fine too, but only B&W. |

Thank You "My Child";) So You can't still just stick the USB and just Print like 25 Years ago?
I'll try some more and wait for any easier answer and as writing another thing annoys me as updating Mixer. It only displayed the Guru, downloaded the older version and then it works ok but is allways displayed at start. Was hidden before. Can I really forget everything???
I have been too used to the PC:s Dopus "Magellan" 9 or whatever it was so Please keep it simple.
Wouldn't want to put another cable at this mess of many Amigas and the dead(?) pc.
--------
Ok. Glad to have me back.. Maybe the usbprinter.device is not just there? It's as far as trying to donate to AmigaWorld.
How come we can't print? Could it be through the good old TurboPrint better then? Last edited by PR on 19-Sep-2014 at 02:03 PM. Last edited by PR on 19-Sep-2014 at 01:55 PM.

| As far as can be seen there is still no possibility so a toy OS4 compared to 3 !?! Please prove me wrong ! I used to send an e-mail to this same keyboard sharing pc and print. Felt quite stupid but it worked with common sense. So there are no drivers... Maybe I send my billing work to my syster in Spain so She can print it out and send it to me so I can send it to.. Oh Forgetit.
What is the USBprinter.device for? Just for getting us OS4 + 4,1 + people ripped off for nothing.
(I'll not dig my HP560C and go to buy worthless inc as they don't last anything)
Hyperion? Many People have the quite of same line devices.
Just got a hint to buy a Google OS pc. Please again prove me not to do that.

So you want to use your printer with USB, well just plug the USB cable and on printer try the USBpreinter.device, you can try usb4dot (http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=driver/printer/usbdot4.lha)
Problems with MIXER send a PM or use my email (in Mixer.ReadMe). Can you send me the crashlog? Maybe you can try to (re)download Mixer from os4depot and unarchive on RAM and just try it from there to see if it works.
Check tooltypes, using 'CX_POPUP=NO' just makes Mixer not to pop up when executing/launching. Last edited by jabirulo on 19-Sep-2014 at 02:38 PM.

It's for printing with a printer connected to a USB port. Just open printer prefs and pick usbprinter.device as the "Port device" and save the prefs.

Try this.
Plug the printer in USB port and wait until recognised.
Open up Printer Prefs. On the left, pick PostScript as the driver. If it is missing drag driver from Storage:Printers like in the old days and reload.
On the right pick usbprinter.device as the Port device. Now Save.
Open up the PDF, double click should get it into AmiPDF.
Select to Print in AmiPDF. First try Workbench printer. If no go try the PS or EPS driver. Failing that try something like HP Laserjet Plus.
I don't have a laser but do have a HP inkjet. |

That only works if it's not a "Dot4". It's highly likely to be a "Dot4".
However, given it is a 2600N, why not connect it to the network?

Connecting it to the network is probably a good idea. I was just trying to answer his question about the purpose of the usbprinter.device.
I'm a little confused about the term "Dot4" though. When I google the term it says: Dot4 is a multifunction peripheral (MFP) that performs a variety of functions like printer, scanner, copier or fax. My HP 410C PhotoSmart Premium all-in-one does all of those 4 things plus I can read the flash drive plugged into it on my Amiga. Does all that functionality make it a "Dot4"??

When you mean OFF, it's DISABLED tooltype '(CX_POPUP=)', so it will pop up unless you activate such tooltype with 'NO' argument/option.
.. CX_POPUP=YES|NO - Set this to NO if you don't wish the Mixer window to appear. (default to YES) .. |

Router? Only an adsl router. My skills are beyond these. Plug & Play would be nice.
Someone suggested a GoogleOS PC. Any Good? Does the old Win HD:s work in that to save some information? 8800GX NVidia card and a few memorysticks would go there from the old one.
Ideas or waiting for the not so much Win9....
This router thing is a ? for me sorry.

DOT4 is a protocol that allows a device that is part of a multifunction peripheral ( MFP ) to send and receive multiple data packets simultaneously across a single physical channel to other devices on the MFP.
All data exchanges are independent of one another so the cancelling of one does not affect the others.
The DOT4 protocol is specified in IEEE 1284.4, an enhancement of the original IEEE 1284 protocol for parallel ports on PCs.
A legacy interface today, IEEE 1284 has been superseded by USB and network connections. _________________ Test sig (new) |

| Ghostscript? Turboprint is maybe too old for this. I'll ask HP to make a driver, knowing that they have never heard about OS4;) This could be very valuable for many.
Very lame but I'll carry two pc:s to a local pc repairing store to make one and buy the needed stuff.

I have found this about your printer model:
Quote:
HP PCL and postscript printer languages are not supported on host-based products. The HP Color LaserJet 1500, 2600n, 3600, 3500, and 3550 series products use host-based printing. There is no solution or upgrade to incorporate HP PCL or postscript into these products and no alternate print drivers are available. The HP Color LaserJet 1500, 2600n, 3600, 3500, and 3550 series products are only supported in Microsoft Windows and some limited Macintosh operating systems using the printing software that was developed for the product. |
So it seems that you can not use postscript or standard pcl drivers here. :(

I found information from the HP net pages that HP 2600n printer language is 'host based', i.e. no PCL or Postscript support. As far as I know, AmigaOS doesn't have 'host based' type printer drivers. You need either a printer using PCL (quite many HP printers) or Postscript support. My former printer was a HP 1022 (PCL) and currently using HP Laserjet Pro M451nw (Postscript and PCL, full colour). Specially the latter one works with Amiga Postscript driver perfectly and quickly.

| Thank You Lazi & Marko.
So I was trying to do the impossible?
It's still funny that the OS recognizes the Printer but there it ends. I asked HP for a driver so they could sell a few hundred maybe... Another impossible thing but miracles sometimes happen. Got a few pc towers and a lot of stuff so they go to a repair place and let's see what happens.
Final (?) Question: What OS to recover the Vista HD:s. Google if it works, Win7 or the comming 9 or Linux. Maybe have to go Mickymousesoft to get the needed files and pics to work?
Thanks again from looking the info.
Edit: Got 80€/cartiges x 5 so not too keen to buy another printer yet. This was 450€ back then.
