For those who haven't noticed, yet, the beta version of the Amistore.net app is up for download on the aminet site. Looks cool, if not all the bells and whistles that were advertised, yet.

@phoenixkonsole

Well, who cares.... as far as I know, online purchases in germany can always be returned during the first two weeks...

@all

as read on Amigans.net, VAT plus Postage and packaging comes on top of that. As user, I consider this as "user unfriendly":

1) VAT should be mentioned beforehand!
2) What ist postage and packaging? Isn't it a downloadable product? Or is it meant to be a "paypal fee"? If so, paypal states on their german site: "Payment is free of charge"...

Guess Amigakit will reconsider in the next version, remember it is still beta!

@gerograph

As far as I understand, P&P is what goes back to AmiStore team (to pay them).

Indeed I told AmigaKit that prices should mention both VAT and P&P.

@gerograph
? As far as I know GB belongs to the EU.
Just a good meant reminder ; )
Else someone like me could buy, copy, use and give it back as long as he lives.
If you don't say "anything" a user has lifetime giveback Option...
This changes regarding customer protection happened this year around June. It is even needed to let the user accept that short before "buying" every time. Check Nintendo eshop or mine as refference.

I pointed that out a few weeks ago. No offend. Just a hint.

UK Distance selling regulations for material goods and services include a 14 day right to cancel .
UK Distance selling regulations are a little different for downloaded purchases.

For instant downloads, the 14 day right to cancel does not apply if the seller ensures and is explicit that;

1. The customer must have expressly requested that the seller begin the supply of the digital content during the cancellation period
2. The customer must have acknowledged that their right to cancel would be lost
3. The seller must have confirmed the customers express request and acknowledgement of the loss of cancellation rights as part of the sellers confirmation of the customer contract.

I suspect Amigakit will ensure they are covered from a UK law standpoint.

Installed it last night and have a few comments/observations:

- Trying to install to a different location than SYS:Utilities/ causes the app to not install correctly in your alternative location; I get a drawer created, and a data folder but nothing else. Installing to the default location does work however.

- Open Drawer after installation doesn't work (I'm using Directory Opus Magellan in WBR mode)

- The gadget labels ARE STILL ALL IN UPPERCASE. Infuriating to look at.

- Lots of graphics flickering when the splash screen shows, the currency widget is selected, tabs/pages are switched.

- The currency widget doesn't clear the previous value when it's changed leaving a trail of previous values visible

- Scrolling the view is slow and unresponsive if you grab the scroll bar to reveal hidden items/text in the scrollable area etc.

- Not displaying VAT and hidden costs is a horrendous practice. I'm sure they'll sort that out ASAP though.

Overall, the concept is very good and it should do well, but I'm just disappointed in the overall implementation. It doesn't look or feel like an AmigaOS app sadly.

@Slash

only a short comment: "Not displaying VAT and hidden costs"

that is even illegal by german law (and I also think by EU law). So if they want to sell in the european union they should change that asap

@Thread

Preliminary opinion :

* Prices aren't those that we finally pay (this really should be mentionned or the final price should be displayed)

* Many of the most awaited softwares aren't yet there (DvPlayer, MPlayer, Radiance, Score,...) which means that when Radiance is finally out, we would have already paid for the majority of them.

* No preferences (how do I choose which browser I want to use ? The intaller should configure it by default)

* Patpal is the only way yo pay for the moment (some countries won't be able to use amistore then)

* No documentation provided with the application

* I created a new account because I did not know that I had to use the one from me previously bought RadeonHD driver

Well, a very nice idea that needs to mature even more before becoming a must have

Remember guys, this is only a Beta status (not a final release). There is more work to do of course and gettng back feedback in invaluable at this stage of development.

It has taken a year of working in spare (family) time to get this far, so I will ensure your feedback gets acted on whenever I get the next free moment.

URLOpen is set in Preferences - its a Workbench component - not an AMIStore setting.

@amigakit

I'm liking what I'm seeing, I did try and purchase zTools and it loads up Netsurf browser (which is not my default browser its Odyssey, so is that normal?) and seem to lock up handing over the details to paypal.

Also Radience package does that include the updated Radeon driver and Dvplayer lite is that different from the full version, plus when is that likely to launch and cost?

But anyway its a great start thanks for all the hard work on not just setting up the Amistore but also getting developers and new software for our Amigas!

@sicky

You already have an amisphere account. Just use your ID and password that you used to download the RadeonHD driver.

Just downloaded and installed, looks great.

One question, why is Ranger £3 on AmiStore but free on OS4Depot?

The login time is wrong, actually 7 hours behind. Can this be fixed?

@1Mouse

Probably is an updated version in AMIStore than OS4Depot?

https://secure.a-eon.biz/register_user.php (unless you have bought RadeonHD licence in the past, use that details to login)
