As an owner of an AmigaOne X1000, and never having owned or used a SAM440, or SAM460, I can only say that the X1000 is very well made, and I trust Trevor, Matthew and A-Eon to support it for many years into the future.
I believe that the smartest thing to do would be to either wait for an X5000 (which you say you do not want to do), or buy an X1000 now, and sell it used to someone later, when you want to buy an X5000.
Personally, I don't think that the performance difference between the X1000 and the X5000 is going to be significant enough to make me want to switch to using an X5000, but I have no test results or comparisons to justify that statement, only a guess from the limited information that has so far been released by A-Eon on what components are included on the X5000.
The X5000 will be faster, and it may have other improvements that Varisys has learned from creating the X1000 (specially where the addition of the XMOS chip is concerned), but for the average user, I just don't think that the speed increase of the X5000 is going to make much difference.
Good luck with what ever you decide to purchase. Good to see that you are not concerned about the recent Hyperion bankruptcy news, like one other potential buyer was, who cancelled his order of an X1000. _________________ Amiga! Thanks for your suggestions and sharing your experiences. Typing this on my AmigaOneX1000 and I'm enjoying it a lot!
Matthew did a good job and was quick to answer every question I had.
Pity I didn't order 8GB of ram; Linux would sure benefit of it. |

The fact that you've even got buying both as a potential option either means you have no problem remortgaging your house for your out of control hobby or it means you could afford to commission a tele-poll of all major Amiga celebrities past and present to obtain the truths you seek. Either way you don't need my advice!
Seriously though If you wait for the Cyrus you could be disappointed so if you've got £2,200 burning a whole in your pocket support the Amiga community and AmigaKit in a period of uncertainty by buying a X1000.
Edit: Whoops, you already did that You read my mind?Last edited by BigD on 23-Mar-2015 at 10:53 PM.

I like that you included the 'Go Away, You're Addicted' option
I am not addicted and unfortunately do not have the problem of having too much money, but I Imagine it would be a nice problem to have.
I am working on creating that problem and hopefully one day in the not too distant future I will be in a position to buy a X5000.
I have been a vocal critic of A-Eon and their...let's call it a strategy (see, I did it again). But given the appropriate amount of discretionary funds I would buy the X1000 in a heartbeat. _________________ All the way, with 68k |

PA6T:
2.2 DMIPS/Mhz per core
2.2 x 1800 = 3960
P5020:
3 DMIPS/Mhz per core
3 x 2000 =6000

Like the topic suggests, the question is AmigaOne 500 or AmigaOne x1000?
Just in this moment I got the idea to go for the 460 and wait for the Cyrus. However I'm not sure if I can justify to buy a x1000 and Cyrus..
What do you guys think?

I just got a AmigaX1000 in feb of this year and I just love it. Glad I bough it and will buy an X5000 also. I am very happy. I think this year we will have a great deal of software that will be coming out and it will only get better from there.
