Have been away for few years already, but now and then peeking what happening... This guys doesn't look good at all. All development seems to be in users hands, and what is going to happend to Hyperion? Hyperion who is on the core, yes Amiga community won't die but what if the core dies? Few years, and i see no development. IIRC i had OS4.1 and nothing has happened? There has been new wares, like X1000 but nothing drastic. From software point of view. Still i am disappointed and sad what will/or happen.
R.I.P Amiga

Like i said "what if"? But the progress bar has moved quite slow for 3-4 years now? I haven't seen nothing "new", only bug fixes. BIG PLUS for new hardware.
EDIT: Yes i'm quite pessimistic about future with Amiga. We need a huge push forward if we want to succeed.

We're being survived for 20 years already. But if we're going to be more than survivers. We need to act fast, before there is no one to survive. i dont write this to be anything more than a thruth.. We're going to die with this kind of game, slow but certain. I don't hate Amiga, i love it. But we're missing the train, BIG TIME. Last edited by Jape on 21-Mar-2015 at 12:26 AM.

yes. and like it is taking it in their own hands with different other ndependent but partly complementary projects like different hardware initiatives including fpga accels, softcores, kickstart improvements, open source drivers, and all the kind of activity, rather than just feeling good because they shoved a pile of cash up someones back and think of themselves like of case supporters. |

And what kind of "progress" are you exactly expecting to be reasonable in the given situation? |

That is exactly the point - for all Amiga-derived solutions. |

Personally i gave up on the idea of some AmigaOS with the official brand and i think the community should take everything in its own hands that is why i support AROS. We not only missed the train but thay also closed the local railroad track and the station is falling into pieces. |
Sorry, I thought you were describing the current status of AROS development at first read but you actually mean you think any further development of the official AmigaOS is pointless
Not only do you seem to be on some crusade to get people interested in AmigaOS to give up on it prematurely but you somehow think that AROS offers us all something AmigaOS doesn't and that we the users could keep development of AROS going better than Hyperion can with AmigaOS You are wrong, emulation/fudging a API compatible pseudo Workbench 3.1 does not interest me and AROS is not Linux!
I don't own a PeeCee and I wouldn't buy one to use AROS though I may buy a Raspberry Pi once AROS is fully ported to ARM. I have decided that unless I could use an Amiga like OS on Fusion on my Mac I'm not really interested in installing MorphOS or AROS on that either.
I would however like to think I'll be able to buy a modern replacement for my Amiga Classic machine in the foreseeable future and I'm sure a lot of other Classic users feel the same. The only reason I'd buy a PeeCee would be to play Elite: Dangerous and I can't justify a purchase just for one game! I'd prefer to spend more to buy an AmigaOne machine to use Amiga productive programs that are actively developed and learn to code in the Amiga environment using Hollywood. I don't find the PeeCee or Mac encourage me to produce anything beyond editing my home videos! They are such closed systems that are so far removed from the hardware that they leave me cold when I think of using them for animation or game developing.Last edited by BigD on 21-Mar-2015 at 10:53 PM.

Well Hyperion didn't exactly set the bar that high. There is no reason users couldn't try and do better themselves TBH.

Fine go off into a dark room to write code and tell the rest of us AmigaOS users about when it's on par with Linux. In the meantime start your own threads if you want to speak about AROS! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." | OS3.9 has AROS code in it (the well known colour wheel for example). How about OS4, any AROS code in OS4? _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

OS4 developers say none (we had discussion about this topic here on AW few years ago, some OS3.9 components were mentioned as examples of possible AROS code, but I was told these were rewritten for OS4 - as they had no access to source code).Last edited by pavlor on 22-Mar-2015 at 08:22 AM.

funny, how colour wheel gadget was particularly unusably slow on aro68k, at least until lately, when it has been converted to fixed point arithmetics for 68k. i still need to test it on an amiga when i come back home. |
