$3000 USD for ANY motherboard, hobby or not, is simply ludicrous as is charging a fee for an OS4 that can't even stand up to Windows 98. So yes, it does apply to Trevor, A-Eon, Hyperion, Acube and the MOS Team.

No one is holding a gun to anyone's head (again this isn't communist Russia). If people want to invest in the AmigaOS platform they buy AmigaOne hardware (seriously that is how the platform survives). It's expensive compared to Windoze x86 boxes but the PPC hardware is low volume custom hardware and that understandably pushes up the price. The real issue that the aggressive and petulant AmigaOS haters have is that they want to have their cake and eat it. You seem to want a free OS that works on the PeeCee that you currently own, for AmigaOS to be better than Windows 10 and for all the work to done by volunteers working 24 hours a day 7 day a week, having completed all the x86 porting and driver support as of yesterday! Absolute waste of hot air talking to people who want the Moon on a stick but aren't prepared to pay for it

Two points for you to consider...

1) People are allowed to buy whatever they want with their hard earned money (within legality) and there was a very long period of time when people couldn't buy Amiga(One) hardware. People are just making up for that now by buying expensive hardware that by all account seems quite reliable and well made especially in the X1000's case.

2) If you're happy with AROS on your PeeCee or AmigaOS Classic under emulation or WinUAE or whatever other system you consider the real spiritual successor to the Commodore Amiga then stop spouting your mouth off and go and enjoy it!!!

That's it. You obviously have an axe to grind and I feel I am just making matters worse by engaging with you in the forums. I haven't invested in a NG machine myself yet but I'd really like one and would prefer to live in a world where they are for sale!! Who wouldn't? AmigaOne hating trolls that is who!

@BigD

You should consider investing in bitcoin mining hardware. Oh wait, can't do that now because they were just Ponzi schemes.

You keep right on believing that NG Amigas and OS4 are a great value and continue throwing your money away, and I'll keep pointing out what a poor value they are, even for a hobby.

And I have invested in an NG Amigas. I purchased a PegII as well as copies of OS4 and MOS. It was all a complete waste of money. No apps, extremely poor graphics support, no mult-user capablilty, no security, USB support was a joke, and no useful apps. Worst system purchase I ever made, and not because of the hardware. The hardware was fabulous and inexpensive at $700 and as powerful as an X1000 that costs $3000.

And why do you guys turn a hobby into a religious experience or some form of twisted socialist experiment by using words like "spiritual successor", or "the community"? I'm just tired of all the BS being slung here by raving PPC lunatics or by those who want to censor me because they have a financial stake in Hyperion or A-Eon. I'm glad you enjoy NG Amigas and you should. And if you have thousands of dollars to throw at hardware that's competitive with systems from 2003, then good for you. Just don't expect me buy all the hype, smoke and mirrors being hocked here. Can you say Xena?

@BigD and pavlor

Look what my five year old AmigaTwo X86X64X6000 X can do which cost only around $700 back then:

And:

Can your $3000 AmigaOne do that?

What the hell is that supposed to mean. Old computers can't post images properly?! Is that supposed to be a joke?

MorphOS programmers have full-time jobs outside of MorphOS and work for a fee periodically on MOS updates. That's called contract work for those who don't understand.

We don't work for a fee. It probably was so when Genesi was funding development but the MorphOS team is the team where developers have certain area of interest and expertise.

I don't have problem calling it business, though, because it is not free product.

1. Some people has still a weird opinion that Amiga would or should be a mainstream again. It is not and it will never be, but it is good hobby.

2. PPC has much better hobby value than x86 has. I have some twenty Computers in my home and only one of them has PPC cpu.

3. I wouldn't understand any reason to use any Amigish OS with x86, as every other OSes does everything better and has much better software catalogy.

1. Look who's talking about wierd opinions! Yeah, the Amiga is not and will never be mainstream anymore, unless this dying community will stop acting like too-much-aged kids, keeping the OS and the Amiga name hostage of a bunch of little companies talking like they were much, much bigger, and of a worldwide computer club of users constantly lying even to themselves. There's nothing that can be mainstream anymore on any Amiganoid "NG" operating system, nor in over-priced ridiculously expensive PPC hardware. But the solution would please no one here. Real truth, however, is that 'Amiga' is just a brand, and probably if Barry Altman survived, he could have had much more success with its Amiga branded PCs than all our 'hobby oriented wanna be' computer systems.

2. "PPC has much better hobby value than x86 has" is by the way the most foolish thing I ever read after "computers have a soul, consoles haven't", and this was on a very old issue of italian Zzap! magazine, year 1989 or so. Please grow up! PPC and X86 are just processor architectures like also M68K, ARM and other solutions are/were. There's no "hobby factor" nor "hobby appeal": they just depend on the use you apply for them. Moreover, computer hobbysts have now ultra-cheap ARM boards they can code on, and make incredible projects with. Not counting Arduino and other makers-oriented products as well.

3. Even the same PPC machines have a much better and larger software catalogy, if your run Linux on them! Why doesn't this reduce their "hobby appeal" for you? Following your reasoning, there's NO NEED to run any Amiga-inspired OS on them as well. I have a news for you: some people here like to run an Amigaoid OS on their X86 hardware for the very same reason you like to run AmigaOS 4 on a more priced, less powered and technically similar-to-any-common-x86-PC PowerPC machine.

1. So you are dreamer?

2. There is some thousands aCube/A-Eon mobos, but millions of any x86 mobos. Please grow up, if you are thinking that soul and cpu has anything to do each other. :)

3. Sorry not interested Linux. As you said there is a x86 amigish system and I'm very happy for those who have found it appeal. With your reasoning there shouldn't be millions of x86 Aros users.

Thats my setup but unlike you i dont find it a waste of money, its cool and fun. I have many computers and os here adn i have most fun with amiga ng. I do have to say that Morphos is much more feature complete and usable and can actually be used as a modern computer with the latest browsers.. if we had java and flash it would be perfect.

I also do use amiga ng to run old amiga apps that i like to use still like ImageFX, Photogenics 5, Vista Pro, Pixel Pro and others because they are fun and i know how to use them and u can still create some cool things with them.

Who cares about multiuser? I hear this complaint alot. No one else uses my computers but me. We have security by obscurity for sure and morphos as Kyrptos which is a good hd encryption tool.

Not everyone is a retard.
Not everyone calls Windows "Windoze" or other childish stuff like that.
You should realize that an adult does not hate software.
If an adult dislikes something, he just doesn't make use of that.

An adult doesn't "hate carrots" and call them "craprots" because he doesn't like their taste.
A child would do that.
An adult just chooses to eat something else.

With this said, it is Hyperion, not AmigaOS which is being hated.
And guess what, the ones who hate them, are the ones that like AmigaOS and wish it could have been in a REAL company's hands. Or open sourced. Available to cheap and widely available architecture. Upgraded to modern standards. And so on. All things that - because of the way Hyperion literally kidnapped AmigaOS, won't ever happen.

Hope you get it now.
