@OlafS25

The quote a famous writer: "the news of our demise is greatly exaggerated" ;)

This is the result of an unfortunate administrative mishap by a third party and is in the process of being addressed/cleared up.

This may take a while as everything takes a while in Belgium whilst it comes to administrative and judicial matters.

Those dancing on our grave, sorry guys, no party here ;)

@Hyperionmp

hahaha

I just knew that it wasn't true, it just doesn't make sense after the release of 4.1 FE
and the fact that Hyperion still lives after soooo many years

Go Hyperion

Thank You very much for a clearance. Waiting for a new OS4,2 to buy hopefully for the XE too.

Law things are really slow. I know from experience from a few companies. Keep those things different and development innovative in another sector if possible.

10+ support.

If I had the power, the Net would be my first investment with a designated printer driver with a manufacturer to get a good sale. PPaint etc could enjoy more sales. All would benefit?

Please don't fight like my two 2+5 years old Amigagirls. Get together and agree.

I'll put my first move going to get the ball rolling:

Donation list for the internet program+printer driver: If I can download and buy Ppaint with OS4 update 6 and get the needed pictures from my e-mail and print in colour the then modified drawings needed in the correct aspect ratio I'll donate:

- New AmigaTechnologies A1200 mint (os3,1+power+mouse, original factory)

Put some more;) !

If it's true Hyperion is still in business, that's a shame. The output from the company has been lackluster at best and it would have been nice to have a new company and vision at the reins of the Amiga OS, delivering something ground breaking and exciting.

With a very limited customer base and development running at snail pace it would be nice to admit defeat and call it a day. But ego from Ben especially can't accept this and will try to overturn the bankruptcy with legal process instead of actually having a pot of money through profitable trading to pay it's suppliers. People have been patient enough Ben.

Exactly. Next to no real progress in 15 years says it's time to give someone a go.... Or simply leave Amiga where it should be.

How can you fight bankruptcy anyway? The business is either viable or not?

As someone who used both 3.9+ and 4.1/4.1FE (since September 2014) I strongly disagree with such statement. OS4.1 is the best Amiga-like OS I ever used and one of the best OSs I tried. Nice and clean design, fast and stable (at least on my current config). This is modern incarnation of AmigaOS I ever dreamed.

Well, in the Czech Republic, there was some crime group that by the help of one judge dissolved several viable companies. That was just an example, not that this situation is similar in any regard. I expect this is not case of Belgium - more civilized country than mine.

That's a not a reason to believe wikipedia. You can just easily sign-up and edit everything in every page and write, no offence, your bullshit (generally speaking).

we already have AROS which is free & works on pretty darn anything including the Pie and then there's MorphOS which is inexpensive for licencing and runs on junkyard old Macs so again what you mentioned has been already available to the public for quite a while.

Why do you think that all those are the same between them? Because they have the same layout that reminds you the original AmigaOS (then why don't you include BeOS then)? All those 3 are completely different OSes. Can you run MorphOS software to AROS to AmigaOS 4 or vice versa? Not a chance.

@Hyperionmp

A court has stated Hyperion as bancrupt.

This doesn't come from one day to another - not even in belgium.

Please explain a bit better what happened and how things will go on.

There was no dancing. No adult person would rejoyce over the demise of a company, and the fate of the people working for it.

However, sometimes someone who causes grief to others, unexpectedly passes away - and people can't suppress a very human sigh of relief.

Oh there is I am practically doing cartwheels. People who "work" for it, seems to be limited to Ben Hermans and anyone else seems to be contractors, who, supposedly haven't been receiving money and filled the company for Bankruptcy. A customer is only a customer if they pay and Ben's comment about a administrative error by a 3rd party stinks of him not paying the bills.

I have been critical of Trevor and Matthew in the past for apparently trying to monopolise anything with the word Amiga on it. However, for all the risk (which is none to us really), at least they care and enjoy using the fruits of their labour - the hardware, software and these forums. Bring it on Trev and Matt!

@Phantom
What kind of OS4 software would you need to run?
Is there any? I mean any which could not just ported over?
AROS MOS compatibility would be possible. TBH someone got a shitstorm while suggesting to work on this.
OS4emu showed that with interest you could make this too.

But.. for what? All Systems live from open source ports and a few own apps.
Better port the few apps and forget about the OS itself.

It is not needed to decide which OS will succeed. Time will tell us. Most of us will fade away sooner or later.. so the OS of choice may too. Sad but fact. Highest surviving chance has AROS but also only in a niche.

Computers and OS will change sooner or later.. Maybe we just connect to a sort of Quantumcomputer powered neural net (http://www.dwavesys.com) which will do our homeworks and decides who drives 3 blocks further in a ambulance just because IBM Watson calculated that the healing / costs ratio was to bad. Did you know that watson does 2.5bio. stock trades in a seconds... that is Wolf of Wallstreet... who need broker anymore? UK is planning to make Sub-Trains and Buses autonomous within the next 7 years...

US-Hospitals replaced management with IBM's watson.

What are we doing here? Spitting each other about nonsense. : )
We are old school and will it be more and more (proportionally)

We are talking about hobby here. Even Hyperion and AEON do it because the have fun with it. User should start to see it the same way.

And the real reason we are here is AmigaOS 1-3.x, isn't it? If not, ask yourself if Linux, OS X or Windows are better places for you.

Trying to force others to accept one of the 3 branches is waste of time and brings nothing except stress.

Maybe if someone would not try to match features of other systems but instead brings innovation than one of the remaining OS could become a bit of serious contender.

AROS has the best chances but still not good chances. A x86 MOS would be just another AROS distro. OS4 well.. who would pay the work needed to do a port on other platforms? Trevor? Even as rich fanboy you have to set own limits ; ) Especially if you are married : )
