@pampers

Using Quake no GL and in software rendering made the intensive use of the cpu.
Quake is old everyware im using the same old port from os 3.9 and Os4.0 for test the cpu.
On x86 im using the old winquake.
There is not a new optimized quake software rendering port .
If you need to push really hard the cpu made the bench with 1280x1024x8 .

Next benching will be thru lame, blender , Qemu with Aros (doom and quake) for check the performances VS Quad G5 .
3D isnt important for me ... because im sure Linux PPC will win in the comparison VS Aos and Mos with the new video boards.

I dont know if there is a quakespasm port for OS4 and Mos but will be a good benchmarking for the GPU too.

@tlosm

It still makes that benchmark useless. We should benchmark on the same software, same versions.

Btw which quake port is that, can you give me the link?

That doesn't look like AmigaOS 3.9 version for me at all.

We should use the same version (68k or PPC) if you want to make fair benchmarks.

is exactly the same port for OS4 that come for 68k of Frank Willie . It was just fixed to run on Os4 (not 4.1)
the ppc.library works good on Mos because it is 100% compatible with it and cybergaphix too.

I've been told that there is a still some room for improvements on MorphOS side like support DMA on PCI-E Radeons so watch the gap ;)

Update, 215 FPS with recent drivers on MorphOS 3.10 :)

Faster than a Quad core 970MP based G5?
Not happening even in non SMP applications, and with SMP you have twice as many cores.
Be realistic, at least the P5020 does appear to have a slight edge on G4 processor (some would attempt to minimize even that).

@tlosm

Yes, we will see, but its not that big an issue for me.
I'm just glad that Aeon managed to produce boards with e5500 cored cpus.

These are the high end higher frequency cpus, and I would have preferred the slower but more affordable T10XX cpus.

But the X5000 is quite nice.
And no G5, except the Quad 2.5, will have as many cores as the P5040 based X5000.

And unless SMP support is introduced the e6500 cored cpus don't make sense.

Even then the utility of more than four threads is questionable.

My biggest b*tch now is the processor choice made for Tabor.

@iggy

you forget one small thing the X5000 will be 5040 cpu too.
the 5020 is dual 2.0 ghz the 5040 will be up to 2.2 ghz and 4 cores
in any way im doing a sigle core comparisons with 970mp because our
prefered Oses are running only on a single core linux is another level
