@Nibunnoichi

Actually, I forgot about Sams at the time, which is a pretty big oversight really
The next evolution if it happens should start to be interesting if it increases in performance similarly to how the 460 did to the 440.
I don't say that to be condescending, I quite like Acube, what they've produced and the way they've gone about things over the years, but for my tastes the 460's don't quite hit that minimum performance level for things to be comfortable frequently enough.

There's also the micro a1's too, another oversight of mine from earlier

I'm not rapt in regards to OS4 and its hardware, but I really should switch my brain on first next time

I am sorry, but I don't particularly like this case design at all. If it were possible, I would still prefer a pizza box style system, sleek and minimal.

Thanks for sharing though!

It's definitely not for me, but you've got to admire the workmanship: it looks amazing... although I wouldn't have it in the house personally. :)

Big red monster...

Its owner simply wanted big red box screaming AMIGA (so yes, it is unofficial case mod ).

Yes. But the discussion was about PCs that are more than the CPU.

The talk was also about the form factor, but that's part of a PC.
Quote:
I measured my HW consumption with a cheap AC meter and pointed out that a PPC is not bad in power consumption, when building a desktop computer.

Power consumption isn't the primary parameter to evaluate a desktop scenario, albeit it's important for me.

Aside this, there's nothing that make a PowerPC preferable to an x86 CPU, in any scenario.
Quote:
>Ghz is not a measure of the processing "power" of processor

Yes. But I read people want x86 because of the Ghz.

Well, x86 are not only efficient, but can reach high clock frequencies. Combining the two things, makes sense to talk about "more Ghz".

Actually PowerPCs are limited both in IPC and frequencies. That's why they aren't appealing.

>...Remember that the last Atom family (starting from BayTrail)...

SAM440 (25W) is too slow for wordpress editing (unusable), but yesterday I noticed that so is 1,33Ghz BayTrail (2,5...5W?) (usable but very slow).

I don't think that you have tried a BayTrail with the same software, right? At least, have you tried with AROS and a similar software? Just to leverage a bit the two platforms from a software point-of-view.
Quote:
AMD 64x2 @2Ghz system (90W) seems ok. And FX4300 system (60-110W) seems good for it. Not yet tried it with MorphMiniG4 (~25W?).

BayTrail can reach 2,4GHz: take a look at its performance.

If you want more while keeping an eye to power consumption, well, there's the new Core M, which is also a very low power chip (designed for fan-less devices).
Quote:
btw. interesting how anandtech get their results...., some examples
AMD E-350 idle 24W load 32W
intel i3-2100 idle 81W load 122W
(+most CPU results do not seem to have power consumption listed)

E-350? i3-2100? That's retro-computing, right?

What would be mandatory on a low end mini case...
-built in 110...240V PSU ? (instead of 12..19V jack)
-5,25" ROM drive bay?
-3,25" floppy drive bay?
-internal 3,5" drive bay(s)?
-only internal 2.5" bays?
-room for mini-DTX board, even if product has mini-ITX motherboard?
(IMO, that is needed for large GPU cards on mini-ITX board)
-room for full size GPU card (300mm long cards)?

So, how about these...

SMALL:
(no 5,25 bay, normal internal PSU, wide but short GPU card)
-Antec ISK-300 http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=2229&fid=293
(5,25 bay, miniature GPU card, no normal ATX PSU)
(no 5,25" bay, normal internal PSU, large GPU)

MEDIUM:
(5,25 bay, short GPU card)

LARGE:
-Antec ISK-600 http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=706716&fid=293
- http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mini-itx/elite130/
- http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mini-itx/elite-120-advanced/
- http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/prodigy#specs

My favorites are:
1. Antec ISK-600 http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=706716&fid=293
2. Cooler Master Elite 110 http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mini-itx-elite-series/elite110/
3. Corsair portable case http://www.corsair.com/en-us/graphite-series-380t-portable-mini-itx-case
4. Cooler Master Elite 120-advanced http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mini-itx/elite-120-advanced/

So, for pre-built systems I would use one of those + sticker for "our" brand.

Guys, could you try to keep that discussion to ONE thread at a time? We've heard it all before.

Unfortunately the X5000 does not feature an on-board sound chip, so you'd need to find a supported low-profile gfx card AND a low-profile soundcard to fit the board in a slim desktop. I say, good luck with that!

I did wonder the case that appeared at Amiwest would be the new AmigaONE X5000 tower

But I still like the simple Fractal Design R3 Boing Ball tower

Yes, the Fractals (despite being bulky too) at least do not insult the eye with childish design.

I think I'll get something like this to put my next PC project into and have it on a shelf under my big TV.
