I hope you at least tried that "junk". |
Buy it just to try it? No way. Then I had to order it from across the border too because there are no stores in this country distributing OS4. So no f****** Way.
I can not even test it with any of all the Amiga owners I know either because its not compatible with Amiga computers, and they are mostly only interested in Amiga for nostalgic reasons and would never even offered OS4 nor any of the NG stuff the slightest thought.
Besides, the technical datas and youtube says its crap anyway._________________ Using: One Commodore C64 - One Commodore Amiga 500 - One Commodore Amiga 1200 with BVision and Blizzard 68060 with PPC coprocessor running Amiga DOS - One Hellbillylitre Amigatwox86x64x6000x running Windows7 |

Gawd... It seems like Hillbillylitre once again hit the nerve and scored even three more points.
Its like trying to build crappy incompatible Duplo NG fanfiction O$ bricks together with real Amiga lego bricks. GAWD! When will you people learn that circle bricks dont fit triangular holes? You have been trying to match those for probably fifteen years now! I have been patient but GAWD I'm shit tired watching this nuthouse...
The Amiga Operating System is locked to its real Amiga hardware both software based and historically and there is nothing you can do about it._________________ Commodore C64 Commodore Amiga 500 Commodore Amiga 1200 with BVision and Blizzard 68060 with PPC coprocessor running AmigaOS 3 Parallel universe: Hellbillylitre AmigaTwox86x64x6000 X 3.4GHz 8GB RAM running Windows 7 |

I just receive my copy of AmigaOS v4.1FE and installed it in WinUAE thanks to the great guides by Thomas and others
I am just amazed to be finally running 4.1! I find it quite usable although I am noticed that enabling A2065 emulation really slows down the OS... most likely a mis-configuration on my part! Any advice to get all the benefits from 4.1 are welcome!

If you use later betas of WinUAE which have PCI-bridge support you can enable GREX and use Realtek 8029 emulation, just a tip =) |

With 3.2 beta, you can also use PCI sound card (SB128 driver is on OS4depot).
Some screen resolutions need to be created in Picasso96Mode - ScreenMode prefs editor or ToolTypes will not accept low resolutions (320x200) or higher ones (1680x1050-16 bit I use right now). However, higher resolution needs more Fast RAM and this is precious resource with only 128 MB.
DON´T install DiskImage device (eats 5+ MB Fast RAM)!
There are many internet browsers for OS4 - Odyssey is the best, but needs far more RAM than you have (SWAP doesn´t work reliably in WinUAE). NetSurf has download manager (but slooow), OWB supports javascript (but lacks download manager...) and IBrowse is the fastest (but only for viewing pre-year 2000 webpages ).
AmigaAmp is really nice audio player - however, V3 is muuuuch slower than V2 in WinUAE when playing MP3 (I think newer version is more optimised for FPU that is slow in WinUAE/QEMU).
I recommend AutoInfo commodity.
If you have any questions about WinUAE/OS4 usage, don´t be afraid to post them. |

Hi there!
I have been playing with AmigaOS 4.1FE on WinUAE and it is great!
One thing though, is that, because I cannot use UAE drivers because of the PPC (is that correct?), I am limited in screen resolution to "Board 0: 1280x720 BGR24"... (There are higher resolutions but with lower depths.)
Is there a way to get a higher resolution, say 2048x1152 in 24 bits or more with WinUAE and AmigaOS 4.1FE?
Thanks! _________________ Tygre Scientific Progress Goes Boing! |

Correct.

4 MB GFX RAM is main limitation there.
Eg. I use 1680x1050 16 bit (must be created in Picasso96Mode) and this takes 1680x1080x16 bits of RAM = cca 3.5 MB.
Edit: Your desired resolution (2048x1152 24 bit) would need 6.75 MB GFX RAM. Such high resolution would work only in 8 bit with 4 MB GFX RAM.Last edited by pavlor on 06-Oct-2015 at 05:18 PM.

Thanks for your quick answer!
Is there a way to remove the 4MB GFX RAM limitation in WinUAE? (I really have no knowledge of this so that may be a dumb question )

There are two ways:
1. UAEGFX support for PowerPC side of emulation. 2. Support for other hardware GFX card emulation (eg. Voodoo3).
All these tasks depend on Toni Willen and aren´t easy. So - at this day - the answer is no. |

This time, Hyperion can´t do anything: there simply isn´t infrastructure for other than Cirrus Logic GFX cards on PowerPC side.
128 MB RAM barrier... that is another question. |

Toni will propably never do it... he did it because he wanted to proof he can do it. He did . Now why helping Hyperion to sell more licenses? He has other more interesting projects. |

He stated Voodoo3 support as long time goal, so never say never...
