@wawa

The "names" of course.

But sadly the lawyers they all use to investigate what issues they might run into...have yet to pass their high school equivalency exams.

IIRC, Cloanto is actually shipping AROS with Amiga Forever.

It's hard not to at least include the roms. Toni built the AROS roms into winnuae. ;)

Podcast just released Here

Quite extensive with mentions of Trevor, Barry Altman/CUSA, etc.

Overall the audio is ok. Starts about 23 minutes into the podcast. Massimo Canigiani sections translated by Paolo Besser, with Paolo carrying most of the discussion.

When asked on the podcast to give the address of their website, they gave the dead landing site "CommodoreSmart".

Note:the interviewer did give the working link during summation. It was only "Commodore" that didn't know their CommodoreSmart link was non-functional.

Yes, there is an AROS replacement ROM, and that's a nice achievement. But if you had actually tested it, you'd know It is not suitable as a drop-in replacement for retro gaming purposes.

Suppose that depends on the game and what AROS does in the ABI. AROS should have a TrackDisk IORequest in A1 and ExecBase in A6, IIRC. Hardware banging games can then start loading in code from the OS before it jumps off and goes solo. At which point the OS doesn't matter.

For Workbench games they should be able to boot into the AROS Benchtop and run from there. Provided AROS supplies all the needed system resources with a compatible ABI.

@Hypex

Regardless, the podcast was quite clear.

They said they will use the AROS replacement ROMS and no one can do anything about it.

Its about the NAME. MCB has always had an issue with the name. Obsession really. But thats what it all boils down to. In their minds Amiga/Commodore mean one thing and anything else is just garbage.

Not sure what you mean. But this name reminds me of someone who tried to forge my emails and get away with it, and who claimed to be in touch with a certain company until our lawyers contacted them, after which he disappeared.

I see a pattern there, and it's not red and white...

except that last time i tried aros roms were not good enough for satisfactory amiga gaming emulation. i may be not up to date because im not into retro gaming, but according to toni there were gaps in implementation he was too bored to fill, and i am not aware there was anything commited in this area since. if there are people involved with aros, behind the project here, as apparently is the case, they should know. except if they plan on commiting fixes in question by themselves.

Actually forging e-mails I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. As for anything legal no one "disappears" the inquiring party is referred to legal, especially when it comes to requests to violate an NDA. Such as you were when you asked me to violate my NDA with ACER. That wasnt a disappearance. You didnt contact my attorneys, your attorneys never contacted me. Thats basically how that road went.

I see a pattern as well and its the same pattern that drove your "property" into irrelevance.

Right, but before any IP "owners" have a cow...let's keep in mind the original source article states:

This is an imaginary product I designed by mixing original Commodore Amiga 500 and Workbench look&feel with a modern smartphone.

Seems that they have big difficulties to get it delivered. I checked the CBM Facebook page and do read (and speak) english, italian and german fluently and especially the italian writers are very upset. Some of them who ordered in July want now their money back. CBM keeps on sending out e-mails with new delivery dates which are more and more pushed back. It would be a pity if they can not fulfill the orders, and it would be a bad image for Italy if it would be just another fraud as at the end they had a great press and TV coverage around Europe. So far no word from the officials besides saying that they are working very hard to get it out and want to be contacted privately. I think a public announcement would make more sense at this point. Let's see ...

And I wonder how could Paolo Besser from Icaros Desktop be so naive to put his name in this business.
I read his name twice as he joined in the venture.
Was he just trying to enlarge AROS userbase by supporting these smartphones?
Does Commodore UK Limited contacted him or viceversa?
Was he tricked by these scammers?
Do they. abused of Paolo Besser name?

@Raffaele

Since part of the podcast by Paolo and Massimo is done in Italian (post #126 above), perhaps you can understand some point that we've missed by merely dealing with the translation.
