- Other changes: https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/log/
It also includes:
- KVM_BOOK3S_64_PR
Support running guest kernels in virtual machines on processors without using hypervisor mode in the host, by running the guest in user mode (problem state) and emulating all privileged instructions and registers. This is not as fast as using hypervisor mode, but works on machines where hypervisor mode is not available or not usable, and can emulate processors that are different from the host processor, including emulating 32-bit processors on a 64-bit host.
- Mac-on-Linux support - Network support for AROS hosted - Support for 4 serial ports - Bluetooth USB dongle support - Kernel tracing with ftrace - ubuntu MATE 15.04 support - Debian 8 support - Linux kernel icon for OS4.1 by Tommysammy
Download: vmlinux-4.2-rc3-AMIGA_one_X1000.tar.bz2
PLEASE test the RC3.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Christian

Will there ever be Amiga-on-Linux? OS4.1FE on top of Linux, using KVM. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

AOL. LOL!
Actually, it already exists, just not exactly thrrough KVM. FS-UAE can run OS4 on Linux. So, there you go; Amiga-on-Linux, OS4.1FE on top of Linux. Two out of three ain't bad. |

If I had an AmigaOne, I would hack Qemu to provide a profile matching the actual hardware, and use CPU virtualization support in CPU or Linux kernel. In fact I am surprised that this is not something anyone has attempted - providing a virtual X1000 on top of an X1000 should not be super difficult, and you could even run OS4 under virtualization from the same partitions that you boot natively from. This way all CPU cores would be in use too. A-EON and Hyperion should want to offer this. Last edited by kolla on 10-Aug-2015 at 09:25 PM.

I agree. Infact I once had a similar idea for running PowerPC programs under UAE. I thought they should be able to run native on the CPU. I don't think it's too late yet. Even a fast PC emulating a PPC is slower than the real thing. So I still think there is merit to an AmigaOne running emulated code fast on the host CPU.
The main problen, for any scenario, would be dealing with interrupt code and memory access. Interrupts would have to be simulated and traps caught for memory. Like for Mac on Linux. Slower but still fast. Perhaps better using MMU than checking memory for each access like emulator would do. |

Torvalds' release announcement
By the way, I have broken the record of the Glxgears values.
Fedora 17 PPC64 with kernel 4.2-rc8 has the best glxgears values I have ever seen on the X1000.
The best values before were on Lubuntu 12.04.5 with Mesa 8.0.4:
Quote:
christian@AmigaoneX1000:~$ vblank_mode=0 glxgears ATTENTION: default value of option vblank_mode overridden by environment. ATTENTION: default value of option vblank_mode overridden by environment. 5911 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1181.620 FPS 6125 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1224.990 FPS 6089 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1217.786 FPS 6277 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1255.383 FPS 6284 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1256.785 FPS 6260 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1251.929 FPS 6223 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1244.445 FPS 6284 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1256.661 FPS 6284 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1256.781 FPS 6290 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1257.982 FPS 6286 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1257.102 FPS 6284 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1256.701 FPS

Cheers,

Just tried glxgears on my Mint 11 32bit, Linux 4.2 rc4, Radeon 6850 and get 5998 f/5 sec. + - 1.
Just info
