@xeno74
I couldn't resist giving it a try. Ended up with the many pages of colorful text messages, ending with "Started Update UTMP about Sustem Runlevel Changes."

Very much like my attempts with 15.10, except after a few seconds something was added:
Quote:
The system is running in low-graphics mode
Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself [OK]

Clicking OK gave me a number of choices, one of which brought up a long file of messages, many of which I photographed for preservation. A preponderance seemed to relate to Radeon this and that.

I'm starting to suspect that my X1000 has serious problems.

@kilaueabart

Could you please test zappa2009's xorg.conf files?

Download: X.org.conf.zip

Please copy one of the xorg.conf files to /etc/X11 after that reboot your AmigaONE X1000.

Thanks in advance.

@kilaueabart

Please rename xorg.conf.radeon to xorg.conf and then copy it to /etc/X11.

Sorry xeno74, ran into the same mess as Bart, and it's the same with trying to install Deb_8.

Once it is time to reboot it can't find the hard drive by /dev/name, and too many other problems.

@Signal

That's strange. There are users without any installation problems and there are users with installation problems.

It seems, there are some problems we don't know.

@xeno74

I tried many things, including initrd, using another Linux to put the modules in, several 4+ kernels, etc..

It is probably one of those small things that when found will cause a good forehead slap.

Back to dinking around with kernels.

Same problem, I'm newbie linux. I don't know how copy .conf in etc.
With kernel 4.5 no luck

Spectre660 released a new installation initial ramdisk for installing Ubuntu 16.04 with the stable longterm kernel 4.1.18.

New: It should copy the 4.1.18 modules and Luigi's Xorg.conf during the installation.

Download: initrd-4.1.18-1.ubuntu16.04-ppc64-2.gz (I suggest to download it with a right click on the link and then with the menu point "Save target as" or something like this.)

PLEASE test it.

@Spectre660: Many many thanks for your new installation initial ramdisk. I appreciate it very much.

Luigi,

Many thanks for this hint. I think you're right. Maybe this is the problem. Sometimes a user installs it in an existing partition and it works without any problems and sometimes a user creates a partition and forgets to reboot the X1000 and it doesn't work. It could be. Good idea!

Cheers,

Christian

@xeno74

Before doing the last install I prepaired the drive with my Mint install. So no format or partitioning was needed. I'll give it another try ....... soon.

@Fogg_80

copy the xorg.conf in a pendrive
mount the pendrive

sudo mount -t vfat /dev/disk/by-label/your_pendrive /media

after

cd /media

sudo cp xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and it will work for sure .

Letme know

I believe I just have the card that came in my X1000, namely (according to Ranger) Radeon HD 5450.
