@Desler

Any plans for a M68K version?

@A1200

The only requirements are a working freetype 2 library and a recent-ish GCC compiler. Last time I checked the M68K compilers available did not have support for simple things like vectors and string. Im not really keen on setting up a GCC environment from scratch, but if someone could help me with this I would definitely give it a try.

@Desler

GCC is the biggest pain in the side of the 68k. I'm trying to convince a friend of mine to make an LLVM backend so we can use Clang. Of course, getting either LibC++ or LibStdC++ to work on AmigaOS 3 is a pain still and he probably won't want to get over-committed time-wise. That means I will have to do a bit myself to get it to run on Aros 68k.

I still think that Aros 68k is more adequate than AmigaOS 3 despite the slowness. If people don't mind updating AfaOS, it might be workable also.

@Desler

Regarding downloading the Google TTF Fonts - I will try your suggestion, as I never noticed the Download button at the top of the page, so thanks for that advice.

By 'raw' I meant that Cinnamon Writer is virtually unuseable at present, as you cannot print or save a document as a PDF, so what use is it as a Beta if even those options are not available? That is, not forgetting that image handling is virtually useless - not that I don't think you won't fix this issue, as I believe you will.

By the way GhostScript v8.70, which was coded for 68k, works OK within MorphOS v3.9. Don't forget that a more basic GhostScript is part of TurboPrint, which is also built into the default MorphOS system.

It is also that a time span of about 3 years has passed since CW v0.90, and there does not seem to have been much added to the program, in the way of functionality, well not to me at this stage.

It is just that when a program is released as a Beta, usually it has gone through an Alpha stage initially, where some of the above shortcomings would have been implemented before it was released as a Beta, which this Beta seems to have side-stepped.

I would, in the end, be enormously grateful if you manage to complete this program with as many useful user features as requested, but at this stage that seems like it will be a lengthy journey.

@Klowna

Exporting as PDF works on the AmigaOS 4 -version (tried at work using Acrobat Reader).
And I can use the .docx documents created by CW in MS Office (at work).

Regarding printing, I don't have a printer attached...

Unfortunately PL special chars and images are lost while exporting to pdf. Its important in AOS4 where printer support, except PS, is almost nonexistent and one have to use cloud printing like HP ePrint.
I have to try exporting to docx and see what happens....

@Desler

I've done some testings under MorphOS.

First, exporting to PDF works, if user installs ghostscript in SYS:Utilities/Ghostscript (maybe this could be made so users can set the path).

Second, underlining is strange. Spaces appear underlined in the wrong place. You can see it in this image.

Third, using the previous image as an example, you can see the cursor at the end of the line. If it is moved one more time to the right using the arrows keys, then it disappears; moving one to the left makes it reappear. Same if you move down and are in the last line.

Hope I explained it clearly.

In general, thos beta version is still very unstable under MorphOS. Previous version, 0.90, works stable enough and is what I use to read o write simple docx files.

I'll keep testing and if you need something in particular don't hesitate in asking.

Regards

I thought I would test the image STACK option (gadget in the right corner of the image GUI), and this basically works, but there is no aspect/ratio perspective preserved when re-sizing the image.

I see there is no fix for the incorrect image rendering (mainly red) as yet.

The Undo option seems to work OK for text, but how many UNDO/REDO Levels will it handle, will this be adjustable in the program prefs as the program improves?

I would hope that text highlighting and cursor page movement will be implemented as I can only find that the 'home and 'end' keys move the cursor one word forward or back, wheras on most word processors that would move the cursor to the beginning/end of the line of text. Also, there do not seem to be any other combination keyboard shortcuts, AFAIK, which would be really handy for a wordprocessor.

It would be nice to have the option to incorporate the ToolBar into the top of the CW Window, as having the toolbar 'floating' over the page can be very distracting, and off-putting.

Also, the Toolbar has all the MUI/Program options, apart from shrink window/unshrink window, and the back/front gadget, wheras most programs have the MUI options in the main window, and as the Toolbar does not have the Close/Quit program gadget option that seems to be inconsistent with many other programs.

I ported Ghostscript 8.70 to MorphOS some years ago:

@realize

Try this.
Thats exactly what I did. Unfortunately ePrint solution is not 100% reliable.
It doesn't recognize some pdfs for me.

Forgot this before...

CW should ask you "to save" when closing the program!
If you forget to save before closing CW.

@rzookol

Thanks for that Michal as I'm not sure, even though I've used MorphOS for a few years now, that there was a native GhostScript port for MOS, as your Printing (Beta currently) works well, though it still does have its issues that need resolving for the Bounty to be fulfilled.

However, I see that the original GS v8.70 Core and GS v8.70 Fonts have to be downloaded as well to be able to use your MOS port of GS.

Hmmm - I seem to remember that Cinnamon Writer wasoriginally developed for the Atari line of home computers by Titan Computer and later ported to the Amiga (OS 3.x)?

As I once tried to get it running on my OS3.x Amiga without success...

Or do I confuse it with a different word processor?

I have today updated a new beta version of Cinnamon Writer for AOS4 and now also for MorphOS.

Is an OS 3.x Version also planned?

I think you're thinking of a different product, and certainly not one I've heard of. Pretty sure Desler has built this from the ground up.

You're thinking of Papyrus Office or whatever it was called. Latest versions are MorphOS only IIRC.

You`re right!
I just looked at old Titan Computer website and there it was. They offered it in 2004...

But wasn`t the `Papyrus Office` wordprocessor called `Cinnamon writer`, or is my memory tricking me?

Hype or eon? Should we boot up the all and mighty Final Writer;)

Libre is good on a Win.

@Dandy

Yes, I think you are confusing this with another program.
Cinnamon Writer has been a work in progress for some time for all Amiga flavors (except legacy), and ist getting there.

Congratulations Claus Desler.

We need a good NATIVE word processor, because the bloat in Open Office is going to be ridiculous.

I'll have to check out the latest version.
Hoping to see an eventual release that pulls it all together.

I think your program has the best potential to become the standard in Amiga related text editing.
Final Writer is an OLD Amiga program, your program looks SO much more modern.
