Probably just some Android tablets wrongly classified as desktops.

At the end, such statistics are not very precise, anyway. According to statcounter.com, Windows market share has been below 90% since 2014.

@g01df1sh

so you really wish ms going down with all that library of apps and games not to mention american control over the world? and you think morphos, aros or os4 would nicely fill in the place bringing "amiga" back, or whatever?

Hope for what exactly?

25 years ago the idea of Microsoft imploding was a juvenile wish of some rabid Amiga users.

@g01df1sh
Well difficult when you buy a Notebook with Windows installed like only option, and some countries like Spain the people choose their PC computers with Windows before other options Linux, only the Mac and for its mark image.

How do you count the Android and iOS tablets out there? I know people who use their tablets in the same way as a large number of people use PCs. Why is a Windows 10 computer that someone uses to surf the internet and do Facebook different to an iPad that someone uses to surf the internet and do facebook?

@persia

This is directly related to the decline in PC (Mac or Windows) sales in general. The trend is that more people are using tablets and Smartphones so the market share will have no choice but to drop because of the Android/IOS usage.

@g01df1sh

"Windows 7 falls below 50%"

Well people are upgrading to Windows 10, nothing has really changed Microsoft is Dominating.
Windows NT - 2.5%
Windows 8 – 2.95%
Windows 8.1 – 9.17%
Windows XP – 9.67%
Windows 7 – 48.81%
Windows 10 – 10.36%

Microsoft Windows = 83,46% of desktop market.

Actually pretty scary so many are using Windows XP. Sure some this might XP embedded and terminals and stuff like that, but number is really high for being so outdated on the security front.

Not everyone has the money to upgrade, and not everyone is willing to install Microsoft's current malware operating system, while Linux may not be an option.

@Thorham

One the major security upgrades in windows is "UAC", that prevents program to change settings that might tempura with security settings of windows. Well you can turn that off you insist on lowering windows security.

Windows 10 is a free upgrade for most people.

In Windows 10 Microsoft is trying to push app store down your trout, and their own cloud-based services. Microsoft has been sifting there economic model to a subscription model. You don't need to buy anything from Microsoft app store, and you're free to not use Microsoft cloud.

And there is "Microsoft Security Essentials", that is free virus protection from Microsoft, its maybe not the best protection out there, but its free.

I think it's better to use that then some random "virus" scanning program from the internet. That you don't know what is really doing.

My biggest problem with upgrading from windows 7 to 10, was Logitech driver did not work well under Windows 10, I now own a razor mouse looks the same. A bit disappointed at Logitech for not supporting my mouse under Windows 10.

Its maybe not big point in upgrading from 7, 8 or 8.1 to 10, as all have UAC I think, but Window XP does not have UAC, this makes it easy for scripts and shit to mess with your computer settings.

@NutsAboutAmiga

We use an Anti-Virus and an Anti-Malware at home because I found that one wasn't enough.

I also use Emisoft at work and it works great.

The other solution is to make backups of your work so that viruses and malware can't destroy all of your files. And put spammer email addresses on block. I actually look at my email from an online email address before I download it so it doesn't get to the computer. I also use a Kindle or phone to preview my email.

Just cause your big dont think you cant fail. Look at Blackberry Nokia and commodore all where big but failed down the road due to stupid mistakes and bad management.

@g01df1sh

Well they need to make many mistakes to kill of the office software,
OS Software, Server Software, Communication Software.
They also have a lot of capital.

The only way that Microsoft can fail if they got competition, there is not a lot on the horizon, keep in mind Microsoft control the office software, and server software.

@g01df1sh

the future will be less based on OS and classic software but more and more cloud based and even everyday tasks done with web browser. So to me most critical are up to date web browser with HTML5/CMS3, newest Javascript with JIT and WebGL. With this situation would be much better. And of course cloud support to integrate different clouds, almost every provider today offers such solutions.

Which of course is ironic in the Amiga realm given that the web browsers are left to the community.
