What are the - Redraw all - Update all
menus for? I do understand the "Update all" wich could be helpful if the "AutoUpdateWB" commodity is off, but "Redraw all", I can't remember having used that, ever, not even in AmigaOS 1.2 times.
|
Redraw all redraws the contents of all the WB windows. My WB3.0 manual helpfully tells me it may be used in the event of a disturbance to the Workbench . In reality though, I don't think I've ever used it and when my WB windows get corrupted I just scroll them a bit or close and re-open them. ResetWB does something very similar and is probably more reliable at fixing window corruption.
Update all does the same as Window=>Update but for all windows. Again, I don't think I've ever used it, although I use Window=>Update a lot. I don't see why you'd ever want to update all windows like that.
|
Thanks for the explanation Quote:
Personally I'd put Execute command at the top of the WB menu, ditch Update all and Redraw all, stick Update software just above About (or alternatively in Tools), replace Quit with Shutdown (which can ask: Quit WB, power off, reboot), and add a Preferences option which opens SYS:Prefs.
|
I like that! However I would leave the possibility to "Quit Workbench"there even if it is indeed a bit useless; most of the times, if I ever want to quit, there is some task running in the background which can not be quit by any conventional means (does not show up in shell, has no window) so it's impossible to quit anyway. |

Yeah - basically I also like the concept.
But there never is a guarantee that the updates it installs really are backwards compatible.
Unless there is some sort of "official certificate" that a new version of a system file (from other sources than the OS devs) is really backwards compatible with the older versions, it is risky to install it.
Later you might end up getting grey hair from needlessly hunting alleged bugs in other software (like me)... _________________ Ciao

Wow! The very first time I see someone on the Amiga fora forming the plural of "forum" correctly!
|
At least in Swedish that is absolutely not the case. There is no inflexion of the word forum. It is always "forum" no matter how it is used.

the automatic complex software update systems are well suited for maintained software thtat gets regular user feedback and has enough developers to fix the issues. thats common for open öinux software and many multiplatform projects, but sad to say, no amigalike sytem belongs in that cathegory today.
also it isnt in accordance with what the amiga users are usually accustomed to, namely replacing kickstart modules, classes or libraries by hand one by one at a time.
ok, given a dependable history of changes and rollback automatic, acompanied with a maintained library of links or local copies, it could work as a system, but it is a huge task, for a team of few people. i doubt amiupdate or grunch is p to it, being almost single individual projects. |

| "Fora" may indeed be the plural for "forum", but given that semantics seem to be the name of the game here I offer the suggestion that "forum" would have been the correct word to use here given that the context was singular, not plural. Unless there's more than one Hyperion support forum?
n.b. I only read this page of the thread so I may well have missed something. p.s. It's a shame more threads arent so light hearted and good spirited.
edit: read entire thread, and nope, same old crap besides majority of this single page,... people trolling, and overly aggressive and defensive troll type responses. Last edited by fishy_fis on 17-Aug-2016 at 02:29 PM.

It's not correct at all, to be honest, it's just fake-latin-english. |
So Romans never met in a forum, meaning meeting place, then?
Of course it is a real latin word and the plural is fora not forums.
This site is a forum, there are of course other fora such as Amigans and a few others. |
