@pavlor

From that post there's only one thing that we can compare with Efika results mentioned above - the Blender benchmark. Emulated PPC counts test.blend is 4118.62 seconds while Efika does the same in 2165.82 seconds.

@recedent

Blender (and lame too) depends on FPU, which means softfloats in case of WinUAE/QEMU (=slooooooow). I´m surprised I managed to get even half of Efika performance there.

Mostly integer benchmarks are mplayer (here helps fast RAM of host machine) and dnetc (Efika should reach cca 3.2 milions nodes/sec). From my experience (and benchmarks posted above), emulation speed is comparable to 500 MHz G3 (with really fast RAM) in integer performance and (at best...) 100 MHz G3 in FPU performance.

Pure CPU speed for most applications is OK, FPU depending tasks (eg. Quake) are slow (cca 35 FPS in 320x200...). There are other factors affecting general performance: no overlay/compositing leads to slower video playback. Note emulation still has many limitations like 10 Mbit LAN or supported GFX cards with only 68k drivers in OS4 - these may change in future, or not.

I suspect that Intel won't further develop the PPC SOCs in the Axxia range either.

But there are PPCs incorporated into the Power8 design for power management and other functions.

@Uitgang

Any news? Hoax or not?

Does anyone know if they are (supposed to) merely do new batches of old designs, or if they have said something about new designs as well? Like a Blizzard 1260 with SATA etc?

It would be amazingly cool if they managed to price new batches of CyberstormPPC cards in around the 500-800 EUR mark.

All them crusty old dying PPC cards that have skyrocketed in price in recent years would very quickly depreciate back to 2005 levels of 300 EUR or less.

@Akiko

Probably true.

But I question the need of PowerUP cards today. The NG OS's aren't exactly fun to use on these cards due to their vast limitations, and the real Amiga/Workbench platform didn't have that much essential PowerUP/Warp S/W to make it worthwhile, at least not IMHO.

I think they should focus on the pure 68k products instead. This is what the Amiga/Workbench retro crowd wants after all. And if any new development occurs, I think it would be cool to have some more modern options to interact with today's peripheral equipment, such as SATA disks/SSD's, modern USB, Ethernet. Or at least a bunch of clock ports.

If they were going to produce the Cyberstorm G4 cards there were going to be produced in the past and where some of us got burned with preorders, now that would be interesting.

@wawa

Well I don't think anyone in their right mind would give them preorder money again!

Not the same company, this one is new. So it's not "them".

@thread

Just adding something I do not see at a glance in this thread, but was mentioned last year on Amiga.org. They also started:

Amiga Technologies UG

Not to be confused with Amiga Technology, Ltd.
