It was my understanding that this change really only affects older PowerPC macs before the G5, is that correct? Some people were talking about this in the Debian IRC channel.

nope all powerpc not big endian will be cut off from debian ppc and ppc64
only the ppcel will be developed (p8 and p9 and one nxp processor) look like the little endian is with the altivec off.

How so? He points out that while they call it PPC64EL in their own text they refer to it as lttle endian or as that would be PPC64LE. It is abbreviated one way and expanded another way. I also pointed this out and concluded it must be some geeky joke.

In any case he also said it must be the OCD in him regarding the ordering. And I agree. It's backwards.

PPc32 not ppc64
nowadays the ppc are all ppc64 or spe if not el
