| That's good news, I would love to try this out on my AmigaOne XE. I guess I'll have to wait until it's publicly available, though. |

Saw it on AEon's facebook page, nice
@AEon
Two questions: On which version it is based on and do you plan to port all parts (writer, spreadsheet, database....)? _________________ Sam440ep-flex 800MHz 1GB RAM R9250 128MB SB Live!

| Interesting !
But everyone should know that GUI will be more "alien" in compare even with QT ports where Alfkil added native os4 menus, etc.
I anyway hope to check this out someday, and hope it will be more or less bug free and just ready to run after unpack without needs to search for some sobjes , or making own archives as it was with firefox :)

| This is really good news. When LibreOffice is available for AmigaOS 4.1 my X5000 will truly be my main computer.

| Does anyone here know if this is a one man programming project, or are there more than one programmers working on this?
Since myself, and apparently so many other AmigaOne users think that this is such an important piece of software for our community, I am hoping that more than just one bedroom coder is involved in getting this working and completed. |

Wasn't this announced years ago under OpenOffice before it forked into LibreOffice? Absolutely nothing was accomplished in the OpenOffice port so I'm more than a little skeptical when someone some 10+ years later announces a LibreOffice port. Wake me up when there's something of substance instead of promises and press releases.....

Can't remember who, if anyone, was working or claiming to be working on Open Office. If there was some project then this port of Libre Office has nothing to do with that. This effort is financed by A-EON and the work is being done Hans-Jörg and Thomas.
Something of substance.

It's in private beta at the moment.Last edited by Rob on 04-Mar-2017 at 05:23 AM. Last edited by Rob on 04-Mar-2017 at 05:20 AM.

Is it really a problem? LO is usually using its own GUI toolkit except file requesters. It may be "alien" to Amiga but "native" to all LibreOffice users and it is more important for me.Last edited by ExiE on 04-Mar-2017 at 09:26 AM. Last edited by ExiE on 04-Mar-2017 at 09:25 AM.

| IIRC the port of Open Office never got anywhere because it needed a whole team of programmers - like a dozen or more - and not enough were interested or had the time to commit to it. After a few months of work by a few, the project was abandoned.

| This is something I'm definitely going to want. I would even pay. Is there some reason why it lacks the forward / back gadget on the title bar?

But isn't it open source software? How can they charge for it? I mean, does its license allow that? |

It's not clear to me from the FB comments that LibreOffice for the Amiga will be a commercial offering in the first place.
However, it's certainly possible to create a revenue stream from any open source software. Just think of the vast number of products and services that depend on it.

An "alien" would be someone who drops $2000 on a system that doesn't have a decent office suite. ;)
This effort is critical.
My only concern is that the single most important application on any platform still remains a bit of a wildcard on the Amiga: the browser.
With an industry compliant browser you get access to unlimited resources. Right now that responsibility rests largely with a number of individuals and there isn't a sanctioned solution.
Ideally, it would be great to have the disparate efforts collaborate to avoid redundancy and for it to be overseen and subsidized by a central authority.

Why not pay for someone's efforts to port this program after all Libre Office has been around for years and no one has bothered to entertain a version for the Amiga and even when you do download versions for other systems they recommend that you give a donation for what is many hours of work. To me it's quite fair to pay for software providing it's well written and tested properly
