What is the price of A1222? What video HD format does it play? 720p? 1080p?
Thanks Wajdy |

Decent speed. With a SOLID browser, this will rock.
Finally I will get myself a machine after 15 years without Amiga |

| I assume 720p on A1222 and 1080p on X5000 is what we realistically can expect.

| I think it could be. I think a portable device would be better. I hung my hopes that ALICE would at least bring some attention to Amiga but it looks like a no go.

The figure that came from Trevor was €400 which I assume is for a board rather than a complete system.

The CPU alone cannot handle 1080p but you may get away with 720p. Hopefully A-EON is working on an API and drivers for the hardware decoders built into Radeon video cards. |

If such an effort was taking place I'd expect that they use Hans since he's best placed to do the job. His contract work might currently be focused on Warp3D Nova at the moment. |

I guess the cpu will have some had times with 720p and OS4. Some codecs will work, some not. Even a way faster G4/1500 (with Altivec!) on MorphOS struggles on some 720p videos. Hence, i really doubt the Tabor will do 720p reliable in all conditions on OS4. It is too weak and multicore support is not there. With Linux this may be different, but who wants to run Linux on this board...?_________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

When it come down to it, it's just a laptop with running emulation. It's nothing really special and anyone could put together. A-EON products don't have too much of a problem getting people's attention, the X1000 received a huge amount of press. The problem is maintaining that attention but most people lose interest when they see the price. Perhaps the A1222 will fare a little better, though I think it won't be by a huge amount since the price will still be too high for many.
We really need a retro product with all the right branding, some games and at a toy store price. That would get a huge amount of attention and sales boosting the Amiga scene massively. Maybe, off the back of such a product, A-EON would then be in a position to make real production runs on there boards at a more enticing price and push the OS4 user base into the tens of thousands rather than the current low to mid thousands. |

Which videos? I wrote about general 720p capabilities of Tabor and G4/1500. And there are 720p videos where even a G4/1500 (w/ Altivec) has some problems (f. ex the 720p videos from my el cheapo video camera). And from that observation I doubt that a lower clocked e500 core (w/o Altivec) will do 720p videos reliably. Some codecs will run at full speed w/o lagging soundwork or frameskip, but some not. _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

Under linux yes. Under OS4? Who knows, but 1080p is probably unlikely, since the X5000 has trouble with that. Right now, the only NG PPC system I know that does that without frame drop without to resorting to an non Amigan OS is the PowerMac G5. |

Even with H.264 AVC with the highest settings? I never did get an answer when I asked last time.
The X1000 can handle some H.264 encoded videos encoded with the lower settings (so, one of the less computationally intensive profiles). The 1080p Big Buck Bunny video I tested played without frame-skipping using only about 50% CPU power. However, videos encoded with a higher profile are a bit too much still.
