It's a nice piece of fluff, but I wouldn't describe it as a 'review'.

i don't know that i'd call it fluff. misleading and factually incorrect in places, but that's par for the course for most tech 'journalists' these days. present company excluded, of course.

However, this reflects, how general public sees AmigaOne hardware.

general public can be usually rather perceived in comments to such articles. ;)

Interesting, but the shared memory portions don't have protection, and protecting unallocated memory seems to be a low priority (unless the OS doesn't reserve mapped I/O areas and other problematic locations).
After all, if its unallocated, its not be used.

BUT, the fact that OS regions CAN be protected, IS significant (even if they may not be yet).
AND, you're right to point out that they have made the first step in moving away from this legacy related issue.

I think he meant

That's my favourite kind of review - the one where I have to guess what the author 'meant' - or maybe not. And what did the author 'mean' by claiming that "memory protection was added in 4.0"?

Jeremy always gets details like this wrong. I once asked him about similar inaccuracies in his "History of the Amiga" article series that he posted on Ars Technica years ago. His answer was: "Accuracy is relative".

This guy simply shouldn't write technical articles, sorry. But his fanfic is great.

This line is true - some memory areas are protected by default since the very first OS4 pre-release, unlike in OS3.x.

if his attitude is like that, i agree. i'm sure he's a nice guy, but he shouldn't be reviewing anything, then.

still nice to see coverage of our little corner of the computing universe, though.

@Srtest

The X1000 and the X5000 are impressive machines, but again, I can't afford them. But if I had €2000 to buy a new computer it'd be on an X5000 instead of a new Mac.

But I'm also helping out with the PowerPC Notebook project so I'm holding all my money for that project.

Nice joke. Judging by comments under news articles, Czechs would be bigots, racists and homophobes. Which is hard to believe in country where organized religion is nearly dead, where most important "nationalist" party is led by leader of japanese ancestry and where populist prime minister sought to get minority votes by pushing same-sex-union-law.

@iggy

So just explain it simply, let say the dog represent the allocated memory, the surface around the dog, is free memory, or not allocated memory.

so when you try color dog, and accidentally draw a line outside of the god, you get a DSI error, so OS can see that program is doing some thing bad, tell you where it miss behaved.

Private or shared memory that's totally up to the program.
a lot can be allocated as private memory. Some stuff most be shared, if your sending a command to AREXX port, that port most accessible from all programs.
