"Choicr right pills" are from Matrix movie, where one choice if he want to know dirty reality, or he want live in wet fancy dreams. I hope it clear now that i didnt mean you need meds ? (Sure, now i see you need them, but i wasnt mean it).
Now, for your fanbousm. Did we agree that be fan of any company are not smart ? I mean, any company are different ppls, some of which good, some are bad. How you can be fan of ?
In end of all you are newbe, who wasnt here in last 20 years. What can you know how good or bad hyperion is ?
But , be on your own. We just soon to be see rage quit. And btw, you suck, sorry :) _________________ Join us to improve dopus5! zerohero's mirror of os4/os3 crosscompiler suites |

today thank you to a guy from another forum i understand why varisys use only 2 of the three controller pcie of p50xx and why performances are not the best on the pcie slots after the first one the big slot 16x. (the 4x real) |
if you have a link, i'd quite like to review the explanation offered. thanks.

IIRC there were no cooling problems with Mark's machine. I'm sure he will correct me if I remembered incorrectly. Like me, he did not like the noisy fan that was on the beta P5020 board so he replaced it. I did the same myself and added a Silent 6, which is the fan now supplied with all the production boards. |
My apologies to Trevor and Aeon on this. I checked my emails, and indeed this was the primary issue - noise.
It had to have been as Mark even stated he was experimenting with using the 2nd core for thermal monitoring to throttle the fan down (leave it to a programmer to try something complex when a simple fan swap would have done the job). In any case, I can definitely recommend the third party heatsink/fan I obtained from AOTL, and I'm sure the Silent 6 fans used in current production boards are much quieter.
Remember guys, I neither own one of these boards, or speak for the MorphOS developers that do.
But I will say, regardless of the direction this thread has turned, I am pleased that the X5000 platform has made it to market and still fully support it._________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |

Ok so you have the X5000 set up in a virtual machine, but question for others who may want to do the same, how are they going to be able to run AmigaOS 4.1 when the X5000 version of the operating system is only supplied with an actual machine pre-installed or via a download from Hyperion's website?

this will be for sure useful on open laptop because it can totally virtualize the e5500. on x86 you can only emulate and will need a new machine for have good performances. on Powermacs right now im emulatingi have to build new kernels for check better the kvm because my installed is pretty old.
the future hyperion can think to setup a perfect version of os4 for qemu. and sell all in a box like is amiga4ever Last edited by tlosm on 14-Sep-2017 at 10:06 AM.

WIth fbdev and disabled shadowfb, this happens also on my PC i5-4590 @ 3.3 GHz with NVidia GTX 1060 6 GB gfx card. Have you tried on other computers, not just G5 and x5000?

dont use mate it use llvm for soft gpu compositing rendering and accelerations . use lxde and you will see the slow down. not present on G5 quad Last edited by tlosm on 14-Sep-2017 at 01:12 PM. Last edited by tlosm on 14-Sep-2017 at 01:11 PM.

So its really a matter of what Linux distro you are running? I'm not a big fan of plain Debian anyway, I've always preferred Ubuntu, and Mate is even better.
In any case, since all Linux is similar, except for the interfaces and I don't really like Debian's look and feel, its not going to be a issue with me._________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |

I don't think that this issue has anything to do with slow ram or bus speed. It appears on Sam460ex too. Something is not optimized for non G4 or G5 type processors. So would probably not affect the X1000 as well. Tabor has it own Debian Powerpcspe and I don't remember a slowdown under lxde . Maybe Dooz or Christian can confirm this .

Even I can tell that it's very hard to discern the gfx driver (whatever implemetations it uses - compositing, opengl, a mix between the 2) from the overall performance regarding the gui behaviour. I mean, even on a working gfx driver some parts of the implementation like moving from X to Wayland translate to worse compatibilty on some parts which can result in wrong colors - on a working driver.
Here on the X1k with a si card (using the generic modesetting driver) to me sometimes it seems slower than when I could have used the gfx card and sometimes I don't think there is a noticable difference.
It's like asking if a compositing desktop (like that known linux implementation - forgot the name) translate to better performance - it depends. It is heavier but sometimes the use of the hardware makes it smoother. Sometimes it is simply heavier.
Let's take FF for example: I remember when I used it with hardware acceleration it still performed pretty badly. I don't remember any advantage compared to using it with the modesetting driver. |

On the X5000 or Sam460ex you can feel and see sluggish window behavior as Tlosm has said for Ubuntu 16.04 LXDE and Debian Sid. Ubuntu Mate 16.04 and up is ok . If anyone can install Gentoo from scratch on the X5000 it would be interesting to see if this issue goes away.

LXDE vs MATE on the X5k makes a different use of the gpu? you are reffering to both (non-working) SI and (working) NI cards? |
