kvm-pr is the opportunity to simulate another cpu class. example g5 become a g4 or a g3 or a power8.
build qemu from source with kvm support. but usually the distros pakages are all with kvm enabled...
i build all my kernels with virtualization support ask the a-eon team to share one of my kernels. 4.11 x5000 was mine build.

I had thought that you had already donewhat I am trying to do.

Should I go back to the 4.11 kernel? Will this make qemu, or MOL work with kvm-pr support?

Apt-get doesn't work on my system. How are you install the qemu package?

So, then do you have kvm-pr working with your kernel and qemu?

@Al89

yes but like i had been write before .. you will able to have only book3e classes cpu in kvm-pr and not the book3s cpus

book3s cpu = 603, 604, G3 , G4 , 970, Power(4,5,6,7,8,9), semi (macos and osx)
book3e cpu = 601,e500,e500v2,e5500,e6500... and so and so (it mean no macos and no osx)

for have macos or macosx you can run it only in emulation ... and on x5000/20 you will have near a 604e 150mhz performances

Did Mac OS run on the 601?

Is there anything that can be done to get better performance?

@Al89

yes old version 8.x are 601 compatible but ... qemu and mol dont work with it

performances the best are from qemu . i tested sheepshaver too but in emulation is really crappy ... qemu is usable.

Yes, Apple did use the 601 processor.
https://everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac/specs/powermac_8200_120.html

Supported Mac OS: 7.5.3-9.1

Well, I am not sure if either qemu or MOL support this, but it should be to run System 9.1without emulating the cpu.

Do you have any ideas on where I could get the kernel source?

There's something about the sources here but I didn't check it.

Kernels for X5000/20 from 4.4 Branch onwards use the standard mainline sources.
https://www.kernel.org/
Only one patch currently needs to be applied. That is for the power off function .

@All

Thanks for all your help! I was able to download the source, the patch, and the 4.11 kernel.
