Hello all,
I'm a long time Amiga user and have been loitering about in the forums for some time. Thought I'd take the time to introduce myself. I only know one other Amiga user locally. We're the last remants of a once thriving user group that started in the 80's.

Thanks for the welcome! "Local" is in Galesburg, IL. I was president of the local Commodore/Amiga user group for about the last four years of it's existence. Since we never officially disbanded, I guess technically I still am. Although a user group of two really isn't a user group, is it?

I still have 4 working Amigas. 2 600's and 2 500's. One 500 is stock and the other has a GVP A530 Turbo Accelerator. I also have some assorted Commodore systems like a SX-64 and a 128D still hanging around. :)

That's one user "locally" more than I know, most of my Amiga buddies suffered sever brain damage years ago and went over to the dark side, PC's & Macs and one or two got themselves a Speak & Spell...

Anywhoo welcome to the forums, I tend to loiter here on and off, not through choice, it's just that they usually ban me on a regular basis so I tend to post in bursts just to get me say in before they hand me my coat and send for a taxi...

Just wondering you say you've got A500's & A600's, why is that most folk in the states tend to own those particular models, as I never read much about folk in the USA owning or using A1200's (always been curious as to why that is)...

Most people are busy whit other stuff, only the real hardcore people are her, think of this place where dust balls roll over the street, at least compared to how it was back in late 80's and 90's.

But there is a lot interesting things going on.
QT being ported to AmigaOS4, this will open up for many newer applications.
We are one the horizon of getting a new 3d system, this will improve 3d performance many times over the old 3d systems we have been stuck whit for too many years.
SDL was ported some years a go and many games where ported over from open source community, of cause they not as interesting as the commercial games.
I think we are doing well on audio and video playback front,
video editing has not been so high on priority list.
We have a new 3d editor called blender.
Many of the good old paint programs work, like tvpaint and fxpaint and so on.
We are also doing well on midi audio tracker front.
In office department we are seeing some work being done, there is a few office packages under development.
We have also been trying to get Spotify ported over, we already have few programs that can do streaming TuneNet and AmigaAMP, TuneNET takes care of radio stations, AmigaAMP is okay if you just have url you like playback.
Web browsing has improved a lot over the years but has become a bit bloated.

So this how things are right now.

I'm not sure, other than I don't think the 1200 was marketed very well here. My friend has a 1200, a 500 and a 2000 with a Video Toaster. Although he doesn't do much with any of them anymore, it's still nice to have someone around to talk Amiga with. I used to have a 1000 and a 2000 as well, but "lost" a lot of computer equipment in a very messy divorce about 10 years ago.

I do have a nice 1200 case/keyboard just waiting for a motherboard though. :)

Have you tried ClassicWB with WHDLoad games on your 68030 A500? That should work nicely.

I have a C128D in a box at home at the moment. I won it on eBay just after I left to go on a business trip. My brother took a look at it and said it looks like new, so I'm going to have a play with that next week. I've always wanted one. :)

To be honest, I have my Workbench on the 68030 A500 tweaked and setup just how I like it. I have used a version of ClassicWB on a laptop I set up for Amiga emulation.

I've used WHDLoad for quite a while though and think its absolutely great, especially since most of my floppy based games are long gone.

You're gonna love that 128D!

Just never managed to figure out why the A1200 was less popular in the USA...

Seriously? PC and Mac are the whole objective of Silicon Valley! At least a 100,000 to every Amiga ever known. I think there is over 50 million PCs in the US alone.

What have Macs & PCs got to do with the number of A1200 or (any Amiga's) ever sold in the USA...

In case you're wondering, I am of course talking about when the Amiga was still available to buy in your local computer shop, although having said that I know it sold more in Europe compared to the USA in its hay day, which is strange, after all it was an American designed system...

hello :)

there are like 20 active users in the city where i live but the usergroup etc was disbanded over a decade ago and even tho the city is very small i never see the guys... i do travel to other meetings tho... but thats like 400km away or even more.
