@Barana

"We come in peace" runs in software rendering IIRC.

Not meaning to be negative, but I doubt theres anything for os4.x thatd impress a typical pc user these days. Most ingame graphics for mainstream formats for example are more impressive than any amiga scene demo. The classic amigas get away with it 'cos of the hardware theyre running on makes them still quite impressive, and interesting. OS4.x's hardware is weak too, but much more powerful than a classic to a point the scene demos are boring, and not particularly impressive.
Honestly if your intention is to impress then I suspect you'll walk away disappointed, as pc users will walk away thinking, "you consider *that* impressive? Wow, thats even worse than I expected if he thinks thats good" (or something to that effect).

Just my 2 cents.

It's the era of which we live in, totally different than back in the early 90's when home computers were just emerging from their infantcy. The Amiga was leading the pack back then by leaps and bounds. The Amiga Demos were very impressive to mind blowing simply because it has never been done nor seen before. Now technology had advanced so far that the gap between "I have seen it before" to "that is absolutely amazing" has become almost non-existant. I compare it to movies now a days. CGI is so good that besides the story line that really isn't much to seperate the movie's technical merits to the point wherre anyone one of them is ahead of it's time.

I still love firing up my old Amiga 500 Demos. To think that all that could be done on an 7 Mhz CPU and hardware that was affordable, make you appreciate the technology of the day even more. Having an Amiga during it's hay day was one of the best moments in my life. Viva Amiga!

A 4k demo should do it
Of course you need to explain them it is only 4k.

@Drewlio77

I agree completely. Nowadays its hard to impress in a scene demo on a machine produced in the last decade because things will be compared to what people have already seen elsewhere, and as much as I wish it wasnt true OS4.x scene demos really dont compare well to what else is around in the "modern" world.

For my tastes 68k amiga, c64, amstrad cpc, etc. demos are more interesting,as while they may not have the same level of audiovisual punch they can still impress on a different level.

Scene demos produced with artificial restrictions are maybe an exception here (4K/64K/etc.) as it still leaves room to do things that arent expected.

@elwood

Sure, but there's also 4k demos for other platforms too, for which amiga systems have no equal. KKreiger is 96KB, but has more impressive audiovisuals than anything on OS4.x for example (and doubles as a game :))

Point being there's nothing in terms of NG amiga scene demos that would really impress someone using a different current platform, so a person will be disappointed if they set out to do this.

The only exception I can think of is if a person isnt familiar with the demo scene. Problem there though is that if they go searching for similar things for their own platform (pc in this case) they'll see that their platform can also do similar things, but better.

At the end of the day though a good demo is a good demo regardless of what system its running on and theres entertainment to be had, even with ng amiga demos.

If you want to put on a show you might be able to squeeze in that particular computer. Borrow some state of the art equipment around it. :)

here's the thing, 99% of every normal computer user out there have no idea what a 4k intro is or how much it actually is in size, saying that it will fit XXX times on a single floppy won't mean shit to them.

Same goes for 40 and 64k too.

Sadly there havent been a good Amiga nor PC 4k made in years , atleast not in the sense of design and code , style anyway.

@OP

sadly there ain't much scene stuff for neither morphos nor AmigaOS4 and the stuff that we have is outdated and most likely won't run properly.

But yes youre right, we need a really good and powerfull demonstration of the hardware but for that we need a better integrated OpenGL etc and drivers which we are still waiting for...

Filesize is not so crucial today, but you exaggerate. If I'd say 4K is like a typical (nonspam) email message or two, that wouldn't be incomprehensible.

i have tried to explain it to the normal demographic , as in users and people who just sit on facebook etc.

and to explain to them how big an email really is wouldnt make it better..

We have had shows and we even put it into highscool oriented showcases and still people question what the point is and why filesize is important and so on.

I call it art, many call it art but even more people think "whats the point?" , just like any art really and to explain art to people who simply don't understand art or the technicalities...well its not interesting to them.
