alright, thats my fist successful attempt to really go online with aros 68k on my machine. all ive done before was dry local file tests. alas invisible on that dark picture there are three zorro cards actually present on my setup, recognized and working. first one is cv64 thanks to which we are getting 1024x768 high color display.
second sunrise ad516 recognized by ahi and playing sound under aros68k, admittedly imposible to catch on a photo and a little odd choice of a card, but had nothing else at hand atm.
and third: x-surf, thanks to which networking to my home net is possible. admittedly i have not yet been able to connect via aros native stack, which must be a matter of settings. im rather not a networking expert, it always gave me pita, unfortunately. | @wawa perhaps just a little better: http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/576/sam1461i.jpg
as you see it isnt working without problems, some gfx corruption appears within netsurf window, which is netsurf problem in this case i suspect. it isnt the last version too. Last edited by wawa on 29-Jul-2012 at 02:32 AM.

That's cool. I'd like to try this on a Natami but I doubt it'll ever be released. I'd like to see how it performs on a Replay or Minimig board. |

Cool. Just wondering what this has to do with "MorphOS software"? |

Promising!
I wonder how useable is Netsurf on classic hardware. Certainly not suited for my 68030? |

Netsurf is quite efficient browser designed for low end machines running RISC OS but it is probably too slow for 68030. Maybe if you turn off CSS it might run better but then the final version of IBrowse is promised "soon".

I´m using both Netsurf and IBrowse on my WinUAE box. Netsurf is good to browse simple CSS pages like Wikipedia. For all other uses I strogly favor IBrowse, current OS3 version of Netsurf can´t even resize its window. |

i gave some results about the end of this thread: http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=6452&start=20 in short i wouldnt expect it to be very usable on 030. even on 060 it is only practicable for simpler pages. complicated content loaded ones like news portals need almost a minute to load or even longer depending on how heavy they are.
also especially the gui of the version im using does not add to responsiveness, therefore at the moment it is difficult to show off with it. honestly, it is rather an example for what is possible at this time without being particularly usable. |

RISC OS doesnt multitask and neither does Netsurf 68k version. UI code is executed only when it gets some time from other tasks (image decoding, page layout...) so most of time UI is unresponsive when loading pages.
UI code should be moved to separate thread like I did in MUI version but it still wouldnt fix single threaded nature of Netsurf. _________________ Free IRC client for Amiga: www.amirc.org |

I don't recall Oliver ever saying that. Link?

It was posted to IBrowse mailing list. They are looking for a distributor to sell IBrowse 2.5 and (most likely) it would be the last IBrowse. "Soon" in Amiga time scales can mean anything from two months to 20 years.
(Oliver didnt say it would be released soon but IBrowse 2.5 is ready and finished and only distributor channel is missing.) Last edited by itix on 29-Jul-2012 at 02:05 PM.

alas even ibrowse 2.4 doesnt work on aros yet. some mui incompatibility. it cannot open the main window.
and as for distributor there isnt much choice left, or will some savior appear out of nowhere? btw was ibrowse 2.5 even planned as 68k version? Last edited by wawa on 29-Jul-2012 at 02:20 PM.

IBrowse is poking to private MUI structures so you need some work to get it running. On top of that it probably uses bunch of semi-private methods and attributes.
According to Oliver IBrowse 2.5 will be released for 68k and OS4 PPC (if or when it will be released). I recall their Swedish developer going MIA which was main reason to not have new distributor (as his consent is needed) but no idea what is going behind scenes.

I havent seen any. I think it is mostly bug fixes and relatively minor improvements. Certainly no CSS. _________________ Free IRC client for Amiga: www.amirc.org |

| @itix then it isnt of any much interest im afraid.
mm. someone could attempt to compile dillo http://www.dillo.org/ for 68k. i thought about it now and then, seems it only needs fltk. i have compiled very few simple static libs once, but had to assemble them practically by hand. it will not work with a bigger project, where a well done configure and clean compiler setup is mandatory Last edited by wawa on 29-Jul-2012 at 07:47 PM.
