I have an A1200 with a ribbon cable coming out the back which connects to a DataFlyer XDS case containing a hard drive in it. In looking at the inside of of DataFlyer there is not much there except for a small board with a few things on it and the connectors which convert the 2.5 inch style ribbon cable to the 3.5 inch IDE style. This seems overly complicated to me. Does that little board really do anything and/or could I accomplish the same thing by a suitable combination of gender changer connectors and cables and supplying my own power to the drive? If I could, this seems like a reasonable thing to do since finding another DateFlyer is not easy. If so, has anyone else done this and give me a few pointers?
Thanks.

If you don't care about the possibility of data corruption or you simply can't get a buffered interface to work (I had this problem with my A1200) there are cables that allow you to plug a 3'5" drive into a 2'5" interface. I used to have one on my A1200 before I went scsi.
