it drives me crazy, too. i gave up on PNG and JPEGs and just went with a GIF. have you tried converting your avatar to GIF and re-uploading?

If would be nice, if there is capacity, to increase the 5kb limit of avatars, a little bit at least 
Also would be very nice if character limit in each field on you personal page (profile) were increased. You "lose" many chars if you use html-codes and stuff, leaving less characters to show :/

There is, but it is broken
I have tried to adjust it to be larger than the current limit, but it seems this was another area of the site that broke in the transition to our current server and server OS.
The char limits may not be so simple to deal with though as they would either be in the base code or the code for the module being used. _________________
