MPlayer Window Transparency

When playing a video in MPlayer the window is transparent when not active, i.e. when doing other things. Is there a way to stop MPlayer being transparent without turning off compositing completely in GUI Prefs?

Thanks!

@gtmooya

I had the same problem with MPlayer when inactive.

I simply put the transparency of inactive windows to "0%" in Prefs/GUI/Effects/Windows transparency

edit : I just read the end of your question "without turning off compositing completely in GUI Prefs"...

Yes, it's due to compositing engine which allows transparency in AmigaOS 4.1. When you use overlay (on Radeon 9xxx cards), this doesn't happen.

Just turning off inactive window transparency is not the same as "turning off compositing completely".

@NutsAboutAmiga

Adding an option to set these two to 255 , TRUE would solve this issue most elegantly.

WA_Opaqueness - (UBYTE) The initial overall opaqueness of the window.
It can range from zero (invisible) to 255 (fully opaque). It will
be combined with the global opaqueness level for this type of
window as selected by the user in GUI preferences, unless you set
WA_OverrideOpaqueness to TRUE. Defaults to 255. (V53)

WA_OverrideOpaqueness - (BOOL) If TRUE, the window opaqueness set via
WA_Opaqueness will never get affected by any global opaqueness
level from user preferences. If you use this, make sure to offer
an alternate way for the user to set his preferred opaqueness for
the windows of your application. Defaults to FALSE. (V53)

Thanks, changing to 0% did the job. Didn't want to turn compositing off completely and lose all the effects.

@K-L

This explains why it wasn't an issue on the Sam440 with 9250 then. Currently have an A1-500 with a RadeonHD card.

On the plus side the video shows up when screen grabbing on the A1-500, I'm sure on the 440 there was just a black square instead.

While I think that the transparent effect looks kind of cool with a running video, it's distracting when you're trying to watch something. I regularly watch video clips in one window while working in another, so I see the value in disabling the transparency.

Having said that, those video clips that I watch are often in a browser window, where mplayer's transparency settings won't help. Maybe I'm better off disabling transparency for inactive windows (unless they're being moved, I find that quite useful)...

Hans

That would be a welcome tweak. And thank you again for the work on mplayer. I am really looking forward to the release of FE.

By default inactive windows shouldn't be trasparent, there is no reason to have this effect only in MPlayer.

Atleast you like to set this specific effect in SYS:Prefs, but in that case this will be applied in all windows

Not sure what you mean, in all the comon themes inactive windows *are* partially transparent, and there is every reason to have an option overide of this in mplayer as you will want to view video while doing other things.

For the same reason sketchwindows have an option to switch off effects in sketchblock(transparency *and* shadows) so that you can work n the GUI windows with out chnagig the appearance of the image.
