WinUAE 3.0.0 (17.12.2014)
==========================

New emulated hardware:

- PPC CPU emulation. CyberStorm PPC and Blizzard PPC boards emulated
using QEMU PPC core, on-board SCSI supported.
- Other accelerator boards emulated (Blizzards, CyberStorms, Warp
Engine, TekMagic, A2630), including on-board SCSI if available.
- More SCSI expansion boards emulated (Fastlane, Oktagon, Blizzard Kit IV)
- CD32 Full Motion Video cartridge emulation.
- CDTV-CR emulation.
- A590 XT hard drive emulation.

New features:

- Show on screen message when disk or CD is inserted or ejected or input
device is autoswitched.
- Added null serial port mode that connects two WinUAE instances running
on same PC.
- Fastest possible CPU speed mode is now available with cycle-exact mode,
CPU is fastest possibly, only chip memory and chipset is cycle-exact.
- Immediate blitter is available in cycle-exact modes.
- 68040/060 with more compatible emulates instruction cache, MMU supported.
- 68000/68010 + 32-bit address space is supported.
- Optionally game controllers can be kept active when WinUAE does not have
focus.
- Implemented secondary Z2 RAM board, for example 6M Z2 RAM + 2M Z2 RTG board
combination is now possible.
- Added "history" menu to filesystem, hardfile and tape drive path selection.
- Added CDTV/CDTV-CR/CD32 turbo CD read mode.
- Multiple SCSI controllers can be active simultaneously.

Updates:

- Programmed chipset display modes accuracy improved.
- Uncompressed CHD harddrive image write support.
- Implemented previously unavailable small Z2 RAM board sizes (64k to 512k)
- Z3 board emulation supports official autoconfig space, required when using
PPC-only operating systems.
- 68000 cycle exact mode updates.
- Improved cycle counting in 68000 more compatible mode.

Bugs fixed:

- 68060 with "Unimplemented CPU emu" checkbox ticked: 68060 only unimplemented
instructions were not emulated normally.
- Screenshot with D3D shader filter enabled always took filtered screenshot.
- SCSI CD READ CD command only worked if audio track was first track of CD.
- Hard reset didn't reset map rom loaded KS ROM data.
- AGA sprites in borders were clipped incorrectly in some situations (2.8.0)
- Autofire always on mode crashed.
- PCMCIA IDE emulation was broken long time ago.
- uanet.device + slirp combination was unusable.
- Directory filesystem statesave support open file path handling fixed.
- AVI audio recording always used PCM mode.

And much more small updates and fixes.

Many thanks to the devs

Nice one!

Is OS 4 officially supported or is it still unofficial running on WinUAE?

@Birbo
What does it mean "officially supported" really? Since you legally own the right OS version (such as OS 4.1 Final in a few days) and WinUAE offers PPC support and the possibility to emulate such hardware, then you are ready to go as you should with a "proper" machine. Simple as that. I think that this is one of the most important steps of the last years: proper PPC emulation without having to spend a fortune on exotic harware + new and final version of the most up to date Amiga OS, is really a combination that could make a breakthrough to a wider audience that would like to test this for the old times' sake.

Unfortunately Steven Sollie said recently that OS4 under winuae is not supported (he said "you're on your own there").
Because PPC cards are now rather well emulated, OS4 is fortunately running well.

Issues:
- you can't use modern gfx card, you just stick with a picasso 4 with so little memory.
- you are stick with 128 Mb on a cyberstormPPC, that means you can for example launch codebench, then it complains every 30 seconds that system is out of ram.
That memory limitation is by design on CyberstormPPC, and Hyperion don't want to put the lines of code to unlock this.
- you can have 256Mb of ram with BPPC emulation, but wihout scsi, so OS4 is slowwwwww that way (IDE emulation is bad)

So it could be a really nice system in fact, if we can have at least more memory (and swap memory doesn't solve most of the issues)

Is a E-UAE version for non-Windows platforms (Mac/Linux) likely any time soon?

CPU emulation is also slooooow (1/10 of CyberstormPPC emulation performance on the same hardware).

where did you got those measures?

because currently, OS4.1 is faster in use on my i5 than microaone and sam 440.

what is really slower is floating point, and gfx.

things I don't use.

CPU only benchmarks on both CyberstormPPC and Blizzard603e OS4 configurations. Do you use Blizzard603e emulation? CyberstormPPC CPU is fast as you wrote, Blizzard603e slooooow.

Fast GFX is substantial part of end user experience. Some applications are limited by speed of current Picasso IV emulation (eg. higher resolution for Doom ), more than 4 MB GFX RAM would be also nice.

E-UAE is quite far behind WinUAE so I don't think it'll be getting PPC support any time soon. I haven't tried WinUAE 3.0 under Wine, but the last full release worked very well under the latest stable Wine on Linux Mint 17.1 so that might be an option for you.

Alternatively, FS-UAE is available with most of the WinUAE features, and supports Linux and OSX, but you might have to build it from sources yourself unless someone else has already done it and published the binaries somewhere. Worth checking out anyway.

I am wondering how winuae can get SCSI support for BlizzardPPC when the official AOS4.1 still can not use SCSI from the real BPPC ??

Short answer: It can't. You have to use IDE on the Blizzard PPC.

@portarinos

There is a difference between "legal to do that as long as you bought what needs bought", and it being "officially supported" which implies active participation and support from Hyperion in making sure that OS4.1 and WinUAE work properly together.

Ssolies comments do NOT make it sound like Hyperion actively supports and participates in making sure that 4.1 Classic is rock-solid in WinUAE. So NO to official support.

But, so long as Hyperion et al do their best to make 4.x Classic run well on Classic hardware, and so long as *UAE guys do their best to make *UAE indistinguishable from the actual hardware, then all should work out OK for those that want to run this combination.

I think the guys who'd have written the SCSI driver didn't have onboard SCSI and the driver never got done for that reason.
