Taken from the new website:

Quote:
Over the past 12 years, ignition has been developed by me (Axel Dörfler/ pinc Software), and Alexander Bartz, who accompanied me in the first few years, but has left the Amiga a long time ago. Due to limited time, I came to the conclusion that trying to create an open source project around ignition is the best option to ensure its future existence and maintenance. Now, I finally found the time to do so.

I hope that, over time, a few people will find interest in further developing ignition. I plan to stay around, and make sure to answer any questions that pop up, and eventually submit a patch myself.

Great news! Amiga needs more office applications to be taken seriously and hopefully this will help. I also hope that development of Ignition continues. Gnumeric looks good too and is probably more powerful but it requires Cygnix X-server which isn't for the faint of heart.

Great, I can't wait for the AROS version.

Well, as far as looks goes, it will be good when the application is OS4 stylised! Having a look at the screen shots made me feel quite old :) How does it compare to "other" spreadsheet apps on non-Amiga platforms. I haven't used it so I can't comment on its functionality or usability! Is it as functional as the Calc in Open Office?

Q!

@samo79

I don't think that this is particularly good news. It sounds like he no longer has time to develop it, so there will be no progress for now. Just because it's open-source doesn't mean that programmers will just come. I hope that several developers will step in to continue this program, but it may well become yet another stagnant open-source project.

@Hans
you are right hans. open source does not means further development of a software.
but after more as six years i can say that is something happend.

ignition is now hosted on sourceforge since april 2014:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ignition-amiga/

and runs nice as beta2 on my sam440flex.

i hope it will be available soon on the sourceforge-page ...

The "Code" link for the project isn't working. It returns http error 500 (internal server error) here.

I couldn't checkout the code with Subversion either. How did you access the code?

i am not the mainainer of these reposity and i will not be the maintainer.
i am only the programmer, who is changing the code, that it will be compiling under AOS4.1 and generate a running binary.
it seems a temporary problem of this page. at this time it works!

@Xenic
i do not know how it works with sourceforge.
i get the code from the old berlios reposity two years ago.
the actual code-base in sourceforge is the old one. you can not compile it successfully under AOS4.1.

please be patient, the maintainer of the reposity has the actual aos4.1 compatible source and will be put it in the reposity soon. then is also a binary-archive for AOS4.1 available.

you need at least 4.1u6 with all online updates to run ignitionOS4.

@turbo4.1

very pleased to see ignition development restarting at any level. currently the spreadsheet options are fairly poor: i use staram plan for everything usually, and gnumeric (via amicygnix) if i need to open anything from a PC. i also have a copy of turbocalc 5, but still prefer staram plan. i'd love to try ignition -- but using the binary from the old berlios site is problematic since the fonts in the cells are absolutely huge for some reason, and i can't change the size.

while we wait for your compiled binary to be posted, how 'bout a screenshot?

Do you know any image file hoster, who doesn´t claim rights on the pictures uploaded?

Ignition scales the sheet to fit the display. make sure you have your screen width and height set correctly in prefs/screen. Use the scale option if they're too big, expecialy for the examples. Another trick is to set the screen width/height to half what your screen actually is.

Ignition seems to expand some rows to 3 times the font height for some reason. Row 2 for example but not row 1 and setting optimal height makes it smaller than the font.

In my opinion all the scaleing stuff should be remved and replaced with font control so the user can pick the name and size of a font to use in a cell, row or collumn with a fallback font defind in prefs for portability. Scaling to fit the screen is fine for small sheets on classic screen modes but awful on todays far higher resolutions.

@Severin
In the aos4.1 Version the font is better sized, It uses the New font-function.
The goal of the first release of "ignitionOS4" was to bring the same functions to aos4 AS the beta1 of the 68k Version.
I call it beta2, because it corrects some little bugs of the beta1.

It will be interesting for me how much people wants a spreadsheet program.

Still doesn't work for me. I've tried with both Chrome and Firefox and they both give the same error page.

It's probably in your browser cache, refresh and it will fail.
