Automount will not work in OS4. Use hardware devices in CD and Harddrives:
Eg. I have
Device: Accelerator:1
Volume:CD
Path:E:\

Note: You must use accelerator SCSI or IDE driver, NOT HDF!
Note2: You can use not only physical CD drive, but also CD images.

Ok it works but transfer rate seems real slow. copying quake 3 folder its taking ages. could it be because my cd drive is usb and not built into the laptop.

There isn't much you missed I think because most PPC stuff I have on my OS3 system has both 68K and PPC support, and if there is something else its probably ported stuff you already have on your Windows machine.

Scsi is a bit faster but both cause it to crash when copy large file.

What filesystem you use and how big is that file?

Don´t use FFS, if you need support for files bigger than 2 GB, you need SFS2. For boot partition, you may use SFS.
