| Anyone know how to set ro change that? I've dug through the forums here (not found anything yet), on Intuitionbase, and in the Documentation drawer on my Sys: partition. So far I have not found how to change that.
I tried adding WINDOW=CON:0/50//500/IconX/AUTO/WAIT/CLOSE to the tooltypes, same as for IconX, but seems Workbench ignores it. Last edited by DWolfman on 03-Jul-2015 at 12:30 AM.

How are you starting this Shell? Only the Workbench and AmiDock read the tooltypes. If you start a Shell with RAmiga/E and "NewShell...", then it won't read the tooltypes from the icon.
Similarly, if you use FKey to launch a Shell (as many people do), you must include the window descriptor "WINDOW=CON:0/50//500/" in the FKey command string.
Does that answer the question? All this is repeated in the console Help (just type the Help key whilst in a Shell and look for "How to specify the console window".

I think he does not talk about the shell by itself, but about scripts with tool icons and "start from shell".
These icons don't open a window by themselves but use Workbench's default output window. At least in OS3 the dimensions of this window are hard coded in workbench.library and cannot be changed.

Tonyw got it right, and sorry I didn't come back right away. I am talking about icons for scripts that are set to start the script in a shell.
Tonyw, do you think that may be hard coded in OS4 as well? At least I know how to get around it is to make them into Project icons that use IconX as the tool. IconX does support the WINDOW tooltype, with the same format as the above examples. _________________ This posting, in it's entirety, is the opinion and/or statement of the author and does not reflect the views and/or position of this site. |

I don't think "hard-coded" is the right description. I would say "it's this size by default", the default being specified in the "Initial CLI", which is opened by DOS.
As you said, if you use IconX, you can specify the window size/position, but I would have to experiment for a while to be sure.
So, are you OK now, or do you need more answers?

We don't talk about the initial CLI. We talk about the window opened by Workbench when you double click a tool which has the CLI tooltype set (a.k.a. "start from shell").
In version 40 of workbench.library this *is* hard coded as CON:0/25/640/150/something/AUTO/WAIT.
Since version 44 the binary contains CON:0/%ld/%ld/%ld/%s/AUTO/WAIT, so there seems to be a way to configure it.
