Is this useable with an Amigaone 500 without ssd?
I removed Ubuntu 15 from my c2duo 2GHz 4gb, as it was slow.

I have not released an installer yet.
Should work with anything up to a Radeon R7-265 (Seventhwonder installed my Debian Jessie using one). No 2D or 3D gpu acceleration with any card.

Installing mate-desktop-environment makes it as fast as any Linux on the Sam460ex . Looks nice too. http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=2238&start=40#p34538

| I tested ubuntu MATE 15.10 PowerPC inside a virtual G3 Power Mac (QEMU KVM) today. It boots and works.
Musa tested ubuntu MATE 15.10 on his Power Mac G5 yesterday. It works but without 3D acceleration.
PLEASE test ubuntu MATE 15.10 PowerPC on your NG AMIGA and on Power Macs. _________________ www.amigalinux.org |

With pleasure, but using Ubuntu 15.04/Kernel 4.2.4 on x1000, what is the easisest path to update to 15.10 ?
Since that RadeonHD_SI are no more supported by Mesa/linuxPPC, I don't care to break my Linux/PPC partition Last edited by zzd10h on 29-Jul-2015 at 12:25 AM. Last edited by zzd10h on 29-Jul-2015 at 12:24 AM.

You could try the same way like the update from 14.10 to 15.04.
Link: forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz
The step 16 is different to this instructions above.
New step for Ubuntu 15.10:
Update your repositories to the new 15.10 repositories
Quote:
sed -i 's/vivid/wily/g' /etc/apt/sources.list |
You don't need the following PPA anymore:

http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate-dev/ppa/ubuntu |

| Hi All,
I tested the ubuntu MATE 15.10 Alpha 2 PowerPC ISO in a virtual Power Mac G3 beige (QEMU/KVM). It boots and works. I have found one issue. The ubuntu MATE Welcome utility doesn't work. I think it's a WebKit issue, isn't it? On my AMIGA one X1000 the Welcome utility doesn't work either. PLEASE test the Alpha 2 PowerPC release.
Cheers,
Christian

I also tested Ubuntu Mate 15.10 Alpha 2, on a MacMini at the moment. Here are my first comments: - I also had a crash of the Welcome app. Note: The problem disappeared after I updated the system packages. - During installation, I had a window saying "The panel encourtered a problem while loading TrashAppletFactory::TrashApplet". - I don't know if colors are right during the boot, this is rather blue. I confirm that on a shutdown, colors are wrong. - The main problem: After a while, the system slowdowns, freezes and then starts a slow flickering. And I've just tested: it happens immediately when I run glxgears. If I use "radeon.agmode=-1" on the boot command line, glgears works at 58 FPS (but when the desktop appears, I have a resilient terminal background displayed at the top left of the screen). With both "radeon.agmode=-1" and "video=offb:off", glxgears runs at 61 FPS and the display looks good. - KMS is enabled and GL renderer is MESA DRI R200. MESA version is 10.5.9. - After some inactivity, the screen blanker runs and if I move the mouse, I am invited to enter my password. When done and clicked on "Unlock", it displays the screen blanker again ! And if I move the mouse, etc. There is a bug report here that says it is fixed in Mate 1.10 but this version is reached after a full packages update and that still fails.

Thanks a lot for testing. I will post your report in the official Ubuntu PowerPC forum: ubuntuforums.org
@All I can confirm that WebKit is fixed in ubuntu MATE 15.10. Midori and ubuntu MATE Welcome work without any problems. Many thanks to the developers for their hard work! I appreciate it very much.

I'm very happy.
Cheers,
Christian

Thanks for the forward to the Ubuntu PowerPC forum ... maybe I will join later.
I wanted to test Ubuntu (and Debian Jessie) for a while on MacMini and AmigaOne X1000.
I will produce a complete report later.
In addition to my previous comments: - I think that 60 FPS with glxgears is low if 3D hardware acceleration is really working - I succeeded in having sound - I found a problem in the Synaptic GUI (in addition to the annoying gtk warnings in the shell console): sliders of the listview of packages overlap, and if you scroll down to the bottom and want to click on the last line ... the horizontal slider appears under your mouse pointer and you can't click! - The global look is very good (graphical aspect, fonts, ...) - The consumption (~22W in idle) doesn't change whatever Wifi and/or bluetooth are on or off (I got a measurable change of ~1 W per device on the same MacMini model with Debian 7 LXDE). Note that with the default screen saver, the consumption raises to 40 W. - Mate System Monitor: When the panel "Resources" is displayed, the process consumes 5% of the CPU but Xorg between 30 and 35% due to the activity of the tool (what discards the purpose of this tool).
