@Dandy

O.K., I admit it's not your fault and you can nothing do about it, but what a HORRIBLE experience it is when trying to read that site on a HP laptop with Vista and Chrome: it took the better part of 10 minutes before it reduced its up and down jumping of text to the point where it became legible and even then I got lost 'where' I was in the text: should I (try and) scroll down or just up? Does moving the slider result in text scrolling up and down? Does the slider move ANYWAY? Doesn't the slider jump back of its own accord?
That site seriously could use an update or two.

Anyway, thanks for the link.

Strange. The site worked fine for me using an old version of Chrome on a pretty low powered device (quad core atom tablet).

As for Windows 10, I'm quite impressed. Given the teething problems most OSes have for a first release Windows 10 is quite impressive. Especially considering how much if it is a clean slate.
As much as I like amiga-oid systems it can be good to have a system that just works so you can get stuff done when you couldn't be bothered screwing around.

@fishy_fis

Site worked fine for me too, using a pretty old version of Firefox.

Anyway, the issue I have with Win 10 is the idea of forced updates. So if Microsoft releases a buggy update that breaks something on your computer, well, too bad. You have no choice, as unlike earlier versions of windows, there is no option in regard to when you want an update or if you want to bypass it entirely (besides for the expensive enterprise editions, I believe).

It's interesting that the author refers to the Windows Desktop as "the Windows home page." That's worse than calling directories folders!

Remember back in Win98 time, you could set web page as desktop, to try claiming MSIE would be somehow "internal to the os, and cannot be removed"

Of course everyone disabled as much as possible (or removed msie entirely, with win98 lite)

@Dandy

Have you read Thom Holwerda's write up about Windows 10 here?.

Glad I didn't bother!

While Windows 10 interface is better than Win8, anything would be but Win7 is still better. Don'tforget though if you get Windows 10 MS will superspy on you. Something to keep in mind.

Another MS product, another round of idiots trying their best to find flaws. If they can't, then why not just make stuff up? Its not like the perveyors of tall poppy's audience cares much about the truth anyway.

No OS is flawless, and personal taste always plays a role, but these people are so damn childish. Its getting more than a little boring by now.
Ironically its so tiring that many with an open mind are choosing MS products out of spite.
Most OSes are much the same anyway. If I can annoy an annoying clown I'm happy.

I (narrowly) missed that, having just moved to Caldera OpenLinux at the time. The last version of Windows that I used on a regular basis was 95 OSR 2.1.

We've had Old Unix Dogs for a while now, and we're beginning to see Old Linux Dogs, of which I an one, I guess.

@DiscreetFX

Eh, personally, I like Win10.
I was afraid I would regret upgrading from Win7, so but I have been using it two weeks and its alright.
Big improvement over Win8/8.1.

Looks like garbage and hurts my eyes. I bet hardly any good games are made for it and the ones I have will be useless.

So, to make Win10 look "less evil" compared to Win7 and 8, they could reduce spying.

On the other hand, why bother, when you can just start spying Win 7 and 8 users aswell

So, the only supported Windows version that isn't currently affected by this is the much disliked Vista...

(Of course there are also instructions on how to remove these updates)

Hmmm - I didn't experience any problems with that site on all my computers...

As if Apple and Google and everybody else don't do it... if you don't want "telemetry" then just throw away your phone and disconnect every cable you have in house
Also, there's a vast amount of options to decide what to share and what not.

I bet the opposite, considering that DirectX12 is Win10 only and, for example, Unreal has been already updated for it.

No...but I'm sure you will enlighten me...

I do not really understand your problem - here are enough amiga-specific fora at amigaworld aside from this one, wouldn't you agree?

This forum is especially for not-Amiga-related discussions. That's why it is named
'General Technology (No Console Threads)'. Furthermore it explicitly says:
"This is the place to discuss about computers and technology in general."

Have you already tested it?

That's up to you.
Just one hint:
If you do not want to read abpout it, simply don't open threads about it and better stay at the Amiga-related fora...
