| Hello Amigans
Yesterday I acquired a Squirrel SCSI interface along with a nice external CD-ROM drive to connect to my A1200 along with the installation software.
The hardware I have been assured is in full working order and have been told was tested
I have connected the Squirrel SCSI to the PCMCIA port and pushed it as far in as it will go, installed the software, but cannot get my Amiga to recognise the drive.
When I use the SCSIMounter program all of the units 0-6 show as "enquiry failed" and if I try HDToolbox all units also show as unknown
The cables all seem to be correctly attached and the CD-ROM spins up when I insert a CD but then nothing happens.
The unit number on the back of the drive is 3, so I have edited the Info on the CD0: icon to UNIT=3 but still no joy.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Kind regards, Spud. Last edited by spudisgood on 20-Nov-2015 at 11:35 PM.

You have checked to make sure the SCSI termination values are set correctly on the CD-ROM drive, I trust? _________________ "I love peacenicks, they're so easy to conquer." --Ivan J Ironfist, the Dictator |

LOL. By the way, did you get to speak to Trevor this year at Amiga30 de? I saw your comment over at Morphzone about your previous encounter. |

| @OnlyMe,
Termination is at end of chain.. CD's and HD's mostly are jumpers on the back, if not, one must be added.
PS: Maybe LUN is needed with this card? Last edited by QuikSanz on 24-Nov-2015 at 05:02 AM.

| I have been advised by the previous owner that his setup did not include any termination, and it worked on his setup, A1200 same as me but on 3.0 and without CF card
Confused - are there any Squirrel users on here who can throw me any pearls of wisdom?
Would having KS 3.1 & CF card fitted cause me any problems?
Kind regards, Spud.

I used to use amicdfs on aminet many moons ago. If the cdrom has two scsi sockets in the back then the one not populated by the scsi cable should have a termination block in it.

| Yes, a SCSI chain needs to have the end of it marked off, sometimes this is done by adding a physical terminator-pack onto the end, sometimes the SCSI device at the end of the chain has a switch on it that, when enabled, designates that this device is the last item on the chain.
In my case, the last device on the chain was a JAZ drive with the terminator switch enabled. (My Amiga hasn't worked in ages, and the scsi tower and that JAZ drive are stored away.)

First. It's drving me nuts. LOL! Good hook. Remenmber that joke about the steering wheel?
Next, tell us about this XCD drive. Is it in a case? Factory built? Brand and model anywhere?
Did the previous owner have just the CD drive connected to the Squirrel?
Some setups had a "big" terminator on the back of the centronics style SCSI port. Next to where the cable plugged into another port.
I also had an XCD drive, a Yamaha, that had switches to set unit but don't recall for termination. The back of an actual CD driive usually has jumpers for termination and termination power as well as unit.
Another thing, are you using squirrelscsi.device? I think that's what it was called.
Being your Cf slot is taken up by a SCSI animal of sorts, I take it your CF card is connected to IDE through an adaptor?
Finally, any accelerator? Some had CF slot conflicts.
That's all I can think of from the top of my head. Last edited by Hypex on 25-Nov-2015 at 12:37 PM.

I've looked the CD drive is in a case and seems to be unbranded, all I know is that it was made in Taiwan (lol) and it is caddy-loading. Doesn't tell me a great deal!
I've just ordered a passive SCSI terminator from eBay for £7, so will see if this fixes the problem.
The drive is connected up correctly and drivers & squirrelscsi.device are installed and activated!
No accelerator yet - but have just ordered an ACA1221 from Amigakit.

Well it all sounds like a proper setup. I take it the drive had external power?
I suspect you may need an active terminator but you will see. It should match the controller. So, in a usual set up, there is: terminator === controller === drives === terminator. One at each end.
Sounds like the drive is working by itself and has power. Perhaps another thing to try is to remove the drive from the computer and just test the Squirrel by itself. See if a SCSI scan turns up empty as it should or give errors. Last edited by Hypex on 29-Nov-2015 at 01:51 PM. Last edited by Hypex on 29-Nov-2015 at 01:51 PM.
