Hi everyone,

In the last few months I’ve had requests for more Amiga inspired key caps for mechanical keyboards as seen here:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=39300&forum=16

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=39261&forum=16

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=39326&forum=16

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=37729&forum=16

As you probably already know, it took me quite a long time to make them and convert them to the following languages:

Italian, French, French-Canadian, French-Belgian, dual Greek-American, Danish, Swedish/Finnish, German, Spanish, Russian, Serbian-Latin, American (both ANSI and ISO standards).

So this Kickstarter campaign is for all of you who for a reason or another haven’t had a chance to get a set during the X500 Evo campaign but also for anyone who already has a set and would like a spare one or for retailers…basically everyone…

The keys come in the usual Amiga-like colour combination; White and Beige but you can also pledge for the all Black one, the new White and Dark Grey, any of the colours below or even a combination of:

White, Beige, Dark Grey, Orange, Green, Lilac, Yellow, Pink, Red, Light Blue.

To spicy things you can even have your own, single key made on any of the above coloured caps, so, for example, you’d like to get the picture of a cat, a penguin, a banana, your face, your pet on a single key in white, black or full colour, just send me the drawing and I’ll do my best to print it on a single key for you.

You need to have permission to use whatever you send me or it must be your original design.

I've always enjoy getting input and suggestions and allow people to get involved so a few Limited Editions will be made based on your preference for colours/design.

Pledge for the Limited Edition sets (AROS and MorphOS, more Limited Editions sets will be available later; A-EON, Hyperion's AmigaOS, ACube Systems etc...) and you will participate with suggestions regarding the look, design and colour combination which will be unique to each Limited key caps set. Once all the suggestions have been collected and the design finalised and agreed on they will be made.

And finally if you also want a full size mechanical keyboard with your full set already applied, ready to enjoy then just head towards one of the available pledges.

So if you want a set in your language layout, a spare set in your language layout for your second keyboard or a spare set for your X500 Evo this is the time to go to my Kickstarter page and pledge.

I aim to have them all delivered to you by November. Please be patient...it's a lot of work.

To summarise:

New batch of key caps (as cheap as they can possibly be).
In your language layout.
New colours to choose from.
Multiple buys are allowed.
Limited Editions using your input/suggestions.
Full size mechanical keyboards with the key caps already applied, ready to enjoy.
Single key loveliness.

Thank you.

@TheDaddy

Wish you all the best with your project. Unfortunately I cannot pledge due to the current bank situation in our country (kickstarter does not accept paypal). If there's an alternative way to pledge then I would like to hear it.

@Phantom

That is a pain in the backside...

Maybe there is a helpful Amigan somewhere on the forum who could do it for you.
Send them the money via PayPal and they could pledge on your behalf.

@Phantom

I could do that for you if you want.

@TheDaddy

For x500 keyboard owners that still have the amiga keys, the interest is to have a unique personal customized key, right ?

@zzd10h

Anything you want...

You can pledge for:

1) Another full set (a spare one maybe) or for a standalone keyboard for another of your machines.

2) A single key based on your design (just send me a drawing/symbol/logo/photo maybe of your face/pet/anything and I'll try and reproduce it on a single key for you).

3) Pledge for a Limited Edition set and you'll participate in the design/colour combination. I'm really excited about this...I really want to see what the AROS, MOS, are going to look like, (ACube, A-EON, Hyperion's Limited Editions and other limited editions later on, hopefully).

4) A full size, USB mechanical keyboard comlpete of a full set of keys.

5) Just the "A", Boing, MOS (butterfly key) etc...

The plan is to make them and diverge more attention our way...the more projects about the Amiga the better.

Thanks!

Amedia Computer have expressed interest in seeing an Amedia Computer Limited Edition.

Red and white colour combination.

I'll create the reward tonight and anyone interested can post suggestions on the Kickstarter page.

@TheDaddy

Nice stuff. I looked over the Kickstarter page, and I'd like to offer a couple suggestions..

You offer combinations like "two keys", "three keys" and "full set", but I had to look at the photos to see what a "full set" consists of. I already have a (normal) keyboard with Cherry Brown keys (Love it!) but it looks like your full set has a different shaped enter key. So for me it would have to be a three key set or a complete keyboard (which really looks good).

You offer USA ANSI and USA ISO. I have no idea how they differ or which one I would want.

I wish you great luck with this project. You already have a great reputation of delivering what you promise. I'll be adding my order soon. :)

@lylehaze

Thank you for the kind words.

A full set consists of all the keys (104 or 105 keys including the Boing Ball or MOS butterfly, the single key design should allow anyone to send me drawing/photo so AROS, Linux etc...systems will be covered as well).

In the USA the ANSI layout is the most common...if you look at your PC keyboard it has a small rectangular Enter key.

Over here (Europe) we use the ISO layout with the big, fat Enter key (I like it because I can really smack it knowing I won't miss it!)

So I made two layouts for the American layout (ISO and ANSI) because I know that many in the USA love the big, fat Enter! and also I can only put my hands on ISO keyboards since I'm based in the U.K.

I'll add more photos later because it can be a bit confusing, sorry.

@TheDaddy

Great news!

Are these caps also suitable for the currently sold AmigaOne keyboards (USB/PS2) which are available only with very limited set of language options? Can the caps be 'mixed' or are they of different style, so that it would be best to replace the full set?

About these 'limited editions', will they be available only from you, or also from the companies they are made for (A-Eon etc.)?

In what price group would be the whole keyboard, any idea...?

Regards,

Gregor

Hi Gregor,

A lot of interesting questions...

These caps fit any mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX switches like these:

http://cherrycorp.com/product/mx-series/

You pull the existing caps off and pop mine on.
I believe that the current AmigaOne keyboards are not mechanical keyboards (I might be wrong though).
Mechanical keyboards start at a price of roughly Ł60 (GBP) and go up to hundreds but they are just magnificent to use.

Some photos of the keys here:

The best thing to do is to read Epsilon's brilliant review of one of my keyboards:

http://amigax1000.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/new-x1000-usb-original-amiga-style.html

Limited Editions:

I'm waiting to hear from A-Eon, Hyperion and ACube regarding a Limited Edition for each one of them, the Limited Edition will have a colour combination and design chosen by the Kickstarter supporters and the above companies.

I have a couple of ideas regarding a Limited Edition for A-EON for example but I'm waiting for Trevor's input.

If you are looking for one complete keyboard just head towards the Kickstarter page...all the details are there.

Thanks!

They look great. What would be the chances of having them made to fit Amiga keyboards?

Would love some shiny new white keys for my A4000.

Ok, then it's best to wait for a while before I do anything...

>If you are looking for one complete keyboard just head towards the Kickstarter page...

I did not see the exact model of that keyboard on the page (unless it is only shown after registering, I did not go so far yet). Is it still the same as in Epsilon's review (Ducky Zero)? BTW, that model seems to have already disappeared from all local stores over here...

Hi Dan,

The keys fit Cherry MX switches so if the A4000 has those then they should fit.

@Gregor

I'm going to wait another couple of days for the Limited Editions.

I'll add the model of the mechanical keyboard as soon as I can...but you can be pretty sure it'll be a Ducky as I find them to give the best quality for the price.

@TheDaddy

The colours are confusing :)
Which one of the following (taken from kickstarter description) corresponds to the original Amiga colours of the full set of keys on the keyboard? :

1) White and Beige key caps (same colour layout as a real Amiga keyboard)
2) White and Dark Grey key caps (same colour layout as a real Amiga keyboard)

Are there pictures of those combinations available somewhere?

I am interested in the full set of keys for at least 2 keybords.
Is the key set combination possible to get a set for 1 white and 1 black keyboard?

Thanks,
nexus

@TheDaddy

Thanks for starting this Loriano, I recently got myself a nice mechanical keyboard and have been looking to get a decent custom set of keys for it, these will work perfectly. Backed (1 set of white /beige classic UK Amiga look for me.)

Cheers!

Hi,

Sorry about the confusion... (English is not my first language).

All the key caps are UV printed in black on any colour key cap other than the black ones...
While the black ones are UV printed in white.

The White and Beige and the White and Dark Grey follow the Amiga layout (all the modifier keys are beige/brown on Amiga keyboards) but you could go nuts and have Blue and White, Orange and White, all Green a mix of all the colours listed or just one or two colour keys...it's up to you.

I have changed the description, hopefully it's not as confusing...

Many thanks!

Hi,

Thank you very much. I hope people will get involved, since making these sets I've replaced all my keyboards with mechanical ones (one with Cherry MX Blue switches - noisy but satisfying, one with Black switches and one with Brown switches)...just lovely.

One U.K. layout in White and Beige for you. Thanks again.
