@AmigaBlitter

It use a Freescale/NXP T4240.
They are limited to 1.8 GHz, so they must have been planning to use a lot of them.

You ought to check out the price on the T4240 evaluation board.
Its way cheap.
At least by our standards.

And in big quantities you can purchase it at discounted price...

@billt

DAMN!

Are we both talking about the T4240RDB-PB or its predecessor?

That is going for $1445 right now.

I have a dual quad core Xeon system on hand that runs almost twice as fast and has a higher memory capacity.
But this PPC board has a 12 core, 24 thread processor.

In other words, the T4240 can run 3 times the number of threads that my Xeon system can.

Of course, that is a bit much for one user (even though I'd still like to have one).

But as a server it would be pretty capable.

@iggy

I got the bigger QDS kit. I wanted more PCI-Express, and wasn't happy with how the RDB ports were arranged.

@billt

I don't think that is available anymore, I could be wrong.
With the two PCIe slots I have video and sound covered, so I'm good.

Edit - My bad, it is still listed. That is nice, but I can't justify the price.
I may have to buy the smaller board for server duty.
The power draw is really low.
