Are they done? Will this be the last thread ever about CUSA? Will anyone ever see this thread buried so far away on this forum? Who knows.

@tommywright

I noticed this a few days ago. But I was reluctant to say anything because I figured I would get called a troll or something similar.

It's funny because the "custom configurator" that has been mentioned had their site attacked by a group of "hackers" targeting joomla installs and turning them into attack sites.

here also..
http://forums.commodore.net/showthread.php?1295-Cusa

Looks like their cart stopped working a while ago and nobody from CUSA is answering messages. They only have a handful to peeps on the forum and the latest news was from October of last year.

@tommywright

You expect any different? Hell they have been waiting ages now for COS v2, which is based on mate and mint 13. The last news they had was that a webstore in italy was starting to sell systems. This was, like I said, cracked by a group of iranian crackers who target joomla and wordpress sites. But even so i doubt the site was even active anyway.

maybe bazza is just on holiday at the moment? we need not read too much into this. frankly ever since they stopped the pretense of being the second coming of amiga and left our community alone, i stopped caring.

New victim of The Amiga Curse?

Of course, it could be only extended holiday season. However, there should be at least some notice, if online store doesn´t work properly.

@CritAnime

The last post I believe Barry made on the forums was last August.

Now, I don't know how long the holiday season is in the U.S.A., but I'd wager it's less than five months...!

Anyway, speaking as the owner of a small company, trust me when I say you don't get much holiday - taking time off work costs you money, whatever the reason. Even when you're on holiday you still need to keep active and available.
If they haven't closed up shop, and he's neglecting his own forums by not correcting people who are saying they've died a death, then he really doesn't know what he's doing at all (*shocker*)

I liked some of the comments on their forum though. One person basically said "most likely they're designing a whole new product range, that's why they're so quiet - not because they're going out of business at all!". The power of the human mind to not accept the blatantly obvious never ceases to amaze me!

@Spirantho

You mean this post?

Quote:
It is what it is. I think what is probably happening is that they are all busy with a new product update, and since it is the change of the year, coming out with a new version of the Commodore 64 as well. That's more than likely, but beyond that there have been rumors of them closing shop around the web.

Yeah it's wishfull thinking at best.

But it's like I was trying to say in my previous post. Even factoring in holiday seasons you cannot surely run a buisness and not be selling products in any kind of fashion. It's like the custom config thing they tried selling. The amount of money it would cost on importing then as a small buisness would cripple you.

As a consumer I would not buy their products. It's far too much money for what they are. For less money you can buy a desk saving system that uses same cpu and graphics chipsets. A normal consumer that doesn't have loads of money to blow on a computer won't be looking to buy something like this. No matter what kind of geek chic it posses.

Some people get a week from Christmas to New Year but most only get Christmas day and New Year day off. Students get 2 weeks I think. We don't get holidays like the UK unfortunately. We have to work and pay for gas for our giant vehicles that are warming up the Earth. Your welcome Australia.

I have to work the bank holidays, thats why I get an extra week of annual leave , so the UK holiday thing really doesn't apply to me. But from what you say then people on their forums can't really blame extended holiday seasons for the lack of products on the store.

Still sat with some popcorn watching this unfold.

Leo has reaponded.

Quote:
Commodore USA have paused sales while some issues are being worked out.
All current sales will be shipped ASAP if they haven't already.
The pause isn't due to any of the theories above or any that could be concocted.
When I am able to tell you more I will do so.
There will be an announcement soon.

Oh if only number6 was here. I bet there is a licensing issue.

@CritAnime

Whatever it is you just don't ever stop selling your only product - that's known as "corporate suicide".
If what Leo says is true, it must be something very important or - more likely - they've found a major flaw in their ideas (maybe licensing as you say).

Either way, Leo has always been on the forums to respond before - why suddenly the delay?

Personally I still find it more than a little suspicious that Barry himself appears not to have been heard of since August on the forums. It seems like Leo and the admin of their forums are the only people bothering to do anything at all.

No product. No support. Nobody answering the phone. Just one man in Australia answering the forum after days of speculation to say that he can't say what's going on. That's not a sound business plan.

However you cut it, it doesn't look good. From their point of view anyway. :)

@persia

Isn't it the usual case for them? Remember the big annoucement posts they did about some upcoming big game changer. There was a run of posts on their old forums that essentially went as an announcement of an announcement. So this is not uncommon lol.

I still find it funny that their "fan" base still hold hope for some new product. there was even a guy trying to sell fpga's to Barry.

How many Barry Altman's exist though? It's just a coincidence as one put it.

Well that confirms it. Erika Lane is his lawyer daughter who also appears on the C-USA website.

Now the question is, what happens to the assets of the company? On one hand the sale value will be low due to the lack of sales and high startup costs. However, the sale price might even be "toxic" due to the debts owed.
